Now, this may be a bit surprising to most people, but Tears of the Kingdom is actually the first Zelda franchise game I've ever played. Now, that's not to say that I didn't do my research, because I'm nothing if not thorough. Nor is it to say that I came in blind. Obviously. I didn't grow up under a rock. But I was more of a Mario and Sonic girl, so this is a bit new to me. And we here at Ashley's Game Review... Oh, that's not what AGR stands for? Okay. We here at Amateur Game Review apologize for the delay in the release of this video. But in the spirit of completion, I felt like I needed to beat it. And I don't mean finish the story. I mean beat the story, do all the side quests and side adventures, complete the compendium, and find all the Koroks. But Zach isn't that patient, and I'm already at 290 hours in. So let's talk about it. We here at Ashley's Game Review... Wait, what? That's not what AGR stands for? We here at Amateur Game Review do apologize for the delayed release date of this review. But in the spirit of completion, I felt like I needed to beat it. And I don't mean finish the story. I mean beat the story, do all the side quests and side adventures, complete the compendium, and find all the Koroks. But Zach isn't that patient, and I'm already at 290 hours in. So let's talk about it. Now, I know that this is going to ruffle a lot of feathers. But I just didn't find the music that great. Now, don't get me wrong. It's classic Zelda. It's orchestral music, calming melodies, the touches of older tunes returning, such as, you know, the Kulgera returning to have similar tunes as the Mulgera from Wind Walker. No, I hate all of this. Now, I know that Zach has a list of things that he usually likes us to talk about in our reviews. So I'll start with the music, because that's always what's most important to him. I think the music is just so-so. It's the expected classical orchestral music, calming melodies, et cetera. The thing that Zelda's kind of known for. But I think it's just like all the other Zelda songs, and it's sort of the same notes on repeat. And that's okay. There's nothing wrong with that. I did appreciate the touches of older tunes returning, such as Kulgera having featuring similar tones. No. I do appreciate the touches of older tunes returning, such as Kulgera having similar melodies and tunes from Mulgera from Wind Waker, et cetera. And the one thing I did really appreciate about the music was the camping. No. No, it wasn't. I think that the music is just what it is. It's the classic orchestral tones that Zelda's sort of known for. And I don't think that there's anything wrong with that. I just think it is what it is. It's there to kind of create an ambiance, and that's sort of it. Now, let's talk about graphics. Now, this game is beautiful. The attention to detail is incredible. The fact that when you're overheating in the desert, you can step into shade to cool down, or the NPCs run to shelter when it starts raining and even comment on the fact that it's raining, or that you can feed your horse an apple to strengthen your bond, or simply the fact that the wild horse doesn't become yours the second you mount it. I just really think those things are small, minute details that really pull this game together. Gameplay-wise, I love the versatility. You can use... You can use play. You can play... Oh, sorry. Let's discuss the graphics. This game is beautiful. I just think the attention to detail is incredible, and it's extraordinary. The fact that you're overheating in the desert, and you can step into shade to cool down a bit, or step into water even, or the fact that when you're too cold at night, you can set by a fire to warm yourself. Those are just minute details that, honestly, would people notice if they weren't there? No, but they make the gameplay that much more important. But we're not talking about gameplay, are we, Ashley? No, we're talking about the graphics! I want to talk about the graphics first. This game is beautiful. Now, the attention to detail is what really gets it for me. The fact that you can see... The attention to detail is really what gets me, because there's such minute details that aren't necessary, but really create an effect that otherwise wouldn't be complete. Would we notice? No, but because they're there, they make the game so much better. For example, when you're overheating in the desert, you start to sway, you start to sweat. Those things are kind of important, and we would have never noticed if they hadn't placed that in there. Of course not. I hate this. Literally, this is so stupid. Let's discuss music first, because Zach likes us to talk about those things. No? First, I want to talk about the music. It's exactly what you'd expect. Classic... Let's talk about the music first. It's exactly what you would expect for Zelda. It's classic orchestral music, calming melodies, really just light touches that build on the ambiance of the gameplay. Now, are they going to win some kind of Emmy for Song of the Year? No, but it's not what it's about. This is about a game. Now, I know what you're all thinking. Why did this review take so long? I mean, most people who were going to play it already have, and I understand that. But in the spirit of a proper review for our channel, I want it to be as thorough as possible and beat this game. I don't mean finish the storyline. I mean, finish the storyline, do all the side quests, all the side adventures, fill out my compendium, and find all those damn Koroks. But Zach's not that patient, and I'm 290 hours in, so I don't see that happening any time soon. So here we are. What's the best that we can do? Or the best I can do, at least. First, let's discuss the music. Now, the music is exactly what it is. It's background music to create an ambiance with classic orchestral tones and melodies that really make you feel like you're somewhere out in a field running around, which most of the time I am. Now, I think the graphics and gameplay go a little hand-in-hand here, but I'll try to keep them as separate as possible. The graphics are gorgeous. I mean, absolutely breathtaking. The attention to detail is incredible, and the fact that when you're overheating in the desert, you can step into some shade to cool down or puddle of water, or that when it's raining, the NPCs comment on the fact that it's raining and run to get to shelter. Those are minute details that we haven't really ever had before and I think really make this game stand out. You son of a bitch, Zach. I hope you heard my phone ding and just know that that was you ruining my recording session, you bitch. The graphics of this game are absolutely gorgeous. I mean, really beautiful. The attention to detail is so incredible. The fact that when you're overheating in the desert, you sway and sweat, and you can cool down by stepping into shade or some water, or that the NPCs run out of the rain and comment on the fact that the weather is turning. Or that when you feed your horse an apple, you strengthen the bond between you two. Or the simple fact that your horse doesn't become your horse the second you mount it. I mean, these are not huge things, necessarily, but somebody took the time to do that. And I think we should appreciate it because it really makes this game stand out. Now, as far as gameplay, I love the versatility. You can truly play this game with your own little style. Diffusing and building alone could have me rambling for hours, and I won't waste our time because there are bigger and better videos out there that can teach you all about that. Now, gameplay-wise, I really love the versatility. You can play this in your own personal style with your own kind of flair. I realize I'm rambling a lot about modes of transportation, but this game is so large and allows for so much creativity, diffusing and building alone could take hours, and I won't waste our time with that because there are already more extensive videos out there for that alone. They're getting nostalgia from when microtransactions and premium currencies didn't ruin everyone's experience playing a game. You can set out and find all of the armor sets. You don't need to buy Amiibos to finish those. Gameplay-wise, I really love the versatility. You can truly play with your own personal style. The fusing and building alone could have me rambling for hours, and I won't waste our time with that because there are much more extensive videos online that can help you. This game truly allows individual versatility when it comes to your style of play. I mean, if you want to just run around and never do the main story, there's that option too. My biggest issue with Tears of Kingdom is that it's essentially just recycled Breath of the Wild. It's the same map, the same songs, the same surf-shielding. Wait, what? The same shield-surfing. I highly recommend it for returning users, sure, but gamers new to the franchise will still undoubtedly enjoy the experience much like I did. I enjoy in Tears of the Kingdom that I can find all of the armor sets. That I don't need to go out and buy special amiibos just to get special things or do anything extra just to play the game. I mean, aren't we all a little bit tired of buying games and then having to buy 7 other games just to play the one that we wanted to play? I love that there's a start and a finish and I can continue to run around and do whatever I want. Now, is it the nostalgia that we're all longing for? No, but it never is. But it is nice. You know, after 300 hours, am I still running around and enjoying it? Let your sweet ass I am. Gameplay wise, you can be as creative as you want. As I previously stated, gameplay wise, you can be as creative as you want. Sometimes, you want to be sneaky and shooting metal buds to do all the dirty work. Turning all the villains into minions. And sometimes, I just run in swinging. Die seven times before I remember that blocking thing. Gameplay wise, I do find the versatility Gameplay wise, one of the things I would like to comment is on the versatility. This game is truly what you make it to be. It's almost like self-monitoring difficulty levels. Because if you don't kill anyone, it almost never gets any harder. And I need all the help I can get because your girl puts the amateur in AGR. I know some of you feel me. Gameplay wise, I love the versatility. You can truly take this game and make it your own. It's almost like you have self-monitoring levels of difficulty. You can truly do what you want to do. It's such an open world. Do you want to use zonai devices to aid you? Do you want to just run in guns blazing? Or swords in this case, I guess. Do you want to die 27 times and just keep restarting because you forgot that you could block? That's just me. My bad. But the thing I'm hearing from a lot of fans and that I've read a lot about online is that they're finally getting the nostalgia that they've wanted for a while. Finally being able to enjoy another Zelda game without all the microtransactions and premium currencies. I mean, you can finally find all of the armor sets without having to buy amiibos and doing special things. It's just nice to be able to enjoy a game from start to finish without the extra. Small details like the Master Sword speaking the way that Bee did, or Link humming the Song of Storms or Zelda's Lullaby while he's cooking, or even that locations have names of people in previous games. Or the return of the Gleok. These are all minor details that really truly make this game so much more in-depth. You want to discover new areas and new locations and do new things because you keep finding little easter eggs. My biggest and really only issue with this game is that the development took six years since Breath of the Wild and essentially we were given a new updated Breath of the Wild game. My biggest issue with Tears of the Kingdom is that it's essentially recycled Breath of the Wild. The development took six years and yeah, you got some new goals and new areas such as the depths and the sky, but it's the same stuff. It's the same... It's the same map, the same songs, the same shield surfing. I mean, is this a sequel? Is it its own thing? Where is Zelda? How old is Link these days?
