By passing the center by Yangshuo, I noticed that someone came to it. News. There was just recently another World War II battle. Shocker. This time it's the Axis Army of Italy and Germany and Britain. It took place October 23rd through November 11th, 1942, and it was a devastating defeat for Italy and Germany. But a crucial win for Britain. Britain lost some 13,250 troops, and about 150,000 were wounded. Whereas Italy and Germany lost about 10,000 soldiers and 96,000 were wounded. Britain and the Allies called for reinforcements and air power in order to rally up. And because of this, on May 7th, 1943, 250,000 German and Italian soldiers surrendered to the Allies. And during the war, British enjoyed overwhelming material superiority. Like in August, 446 guns, 254 tanks, and a shipment of grants from America and 72,192 tons of storage arrived. And because of this advantage, the British victory was the turning point that eventually led to the defeat of the Axis forces in North Africa in May of 1943. This being Britain's first victory provided a huge psychological boost. So I honestly don't know how this all started. Can you enlighten me a little bit? Yeah, from my understanding, in 1942, Hitler's Afrika Korps, under the command of General Erwin Rommel, stood poised to take El Alamein, which is a railway about 70 miles from Alexandria, which of course we all know. But anyways, adopting Blitzkrieg tactics into desert warfare, Rommel had pushed the British back from the Egyptian frontier to El Alamein. Oh, and then from there, they stood ready to take the Suez Canal and the oil fields of the Middle East, right? Yeah, you got it. Well, I remembered that part, and that was about it. Alright, well it's time for an odd break presented by, oh, us. Well, how funny.
