The human brain has seven primary emotion networks, which are found in the same areas of the brain. The seeking system is the most powerful, including curiosity and interest. It is present at birth and keeps us motivated to explore and learn. Educators can stimulate this system to trigger students' urge to learn. The human brain is equipped with seven primary emotion networks. The neural pathways that arouse each of these emotions are found in approximately the same areas of the brain, below the cortex. As you will notice in this slide, the names of these systems are printed in uppercase at the request of neuroscientist Jacques Padsup, who labeled the systems. Although these systems do not work completely independently of one another, the most powerful of the seven systems is the seeking system, which includes curiosity, interest, anticipation, and craving. The seeking system is present at birth and does not depend on experiences for development. It keeps us motivated and intensely interested in exploring our world to learn as well as survive. It energizes our behaviors and attitudes, and Padsup believes that it generates all motivation, providing us with continued enthusiasm and interest while we're in the midst of processing, so that we feel good while we're doing the task, not just when we have it completed. If educators can stimulate this system into action, they can trigger students' instinctual urge to get out there, do something, find answers, and learn.
