Bizzy interview

So this is the Hub on VCFM, we're live from UpFest, it is coming up to one o'clock, it's Saturday, it's a tidal activity down here, lots going on, lots of live art, there's some music going on, there's some food knocking around, and we've been joined by one of the artists today, and your name is Busy? Yes. Cool name, keeping busy? Yeah, I am, all the time. So tell us a bit about you, your background, how you got into street art? I never thought of doing street art until 15 years ago, when I first came to UpFest, and what I've seen all that life and everything around here, I thought I must do art, and ever since, I never stopped. I don't do it full time, I have a work, but any time, any minute, I try to spend with art. So you were inspired to start making art from coming to UpFest? Absolutely. If not UpFest, I would never do art. That's incredible, that's great. And so how many times have you, is this your first time coming to UpFest? No, this is my third time, yeah. So how does what, like, so we're, just for our listeners, we're in a courtyard here behind the tobacco factory, and there's probably, how many easels, there's like massive easels set up everywhere, with probably, I can see about 30 odd artists, each doing their own piece. How do you become one of the artists at UpFest? So when I came here a few years ago, 15 years ago, and I thought I'm going to do art, the only problem is I cannot draw, and that is quite a let down for an artist. So I thought, what can I do then, how can I do art? And I looked up, and I started to do stencils, and I just looked up on YouTube how you do stencils, and the rest is the history. And did you have to apply to be part of UpFest this year? Yes. What was that process like? You send an email, and then they decide who is going to be chosen to paint this. Yeah. And I hear there was a lot of artists that wanted to be on this year, so you're one of the special few. There's always so many artists, and yeah, I was very lucky, I think. Cool. So tell us a bit about your art, because I tell you what, it caught my eye, because I've got a black Labrador at home called Alfie, he's really cute, and I keep looking at it going, oh my God, that's reminding me of my dog. So for the listeners, Lizzie is painting a black Labrador. Nice ballet dancer, but okay. So what, do you paint a certain thing? Do you paint animals, or what do you do? Yes, you're right. Mostly I like to paint animals and women for pictures. So I decided this year, a few years ago, I did a big cat, and somebody just came back and they said, oh, didn't you paint a cat like in 2016? Because I remember that. And I thought it's just fair to make a dog now, after a cat. Not to be a dog or a cat person, be both. And do you, have you got aspirations to do like big wall stuff, like big murals and things, or? I do central painting, and that is quite limited. It is very hard to do big walls, so I'd rather do smaller size. And so, do you have any ambitions, like with your art beyond here, you're just going to keep doing it? Keep doing it. Keep doing and keep evolving and developing. What's going to happen to your painting when you've finished it today? I hope your colleague is going to buy it. I'm going to buy it. And is that the same with, what happens to all of the pieces? Yes, as far as I know, you can buy any of the boards. You have to go to Octopus directly, and then they decide on the price and how can you purchase it. Yeah, yeah, great. Amazing. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Thank you very much.
