The podcast discusses the WILLOW project, an oil and gas project that will produce a significant amount of CO2 emissions. It has environmental and health concerns, as it could lead to the extinction of animals and worsen the greenhouse effect. The project was initially blocked but is now being pushed forward by the current administration. There are protests and online petitions against it, with millions of people expressing their opposition. Social media platforms like TikTok have also been used to raise awareness. The podcast encourages listeners to take action and protect the future of the planet. --------- Hi everyone, today you are with me Nikolay, Maria, Tia, and Stelyan, and with our environmental podcast. Say "Hi" y'all! In this podcast we will talk about the problems around the earth and how we can solve them. Today we will talk about the WILLOW project. Tia, could you tell what the WILLOW project is to our listeners? Of course, the WILLOW project is an 8 billion oil and gas project. The environmental review say WILLOW would open up an estimated 629 million barrels of oil. You are probably asking why it is a problem and the answer is because it will produce 287 million metric tons of CO2 over the next 30 years. If that does not seem much to you, well, it really is. They say the emissions are not good for our planet and it will cause a lot of chemical changes. Yeah, because of this a lot of animals can become extinct, for example the polar bear. Then, who is doing it? They definitely know it is not good for the environment. WILLOW was first advanced by the Trump administration but later blocked by a federal judge due insufficient environmental review. However, today's administration is now moving it forward. But during his 2020 presidential campaign, the president voted to end new oil and gas drilling on public lands and water. He said the president should be creating new jobs in technology and infrastructure for sustainable renewable domestic energy, shouldn't he? With this oil the prices will go down and some people are going to like that. But there are a lot of people protesting outside for a better future for their children. There are a lot of other problems. The animals in Alaska are going to become extinct because of the CO2 in the air and these emissions will damage the whole earth. The greenhouse effect is going to become stronger. There is another problem. The Alaskan natives living closer to the plant project are deeply concerned about the health and environmental impacts of the major oil development. Yeah, this is another problem that appears. But let's talk about the solutions to this problem. You are right. Every problem has some kind of solutions. For example, there are a lot of petitions online, right? Of course. One of them has over 3.5 million people who have signed it. That's a lot. There is a website that sends real letters to the person who is doing it and you just need to write your name, email and country. This is amazing and so smart. There are many save the world programs active about this problem too. Yeah. The people are very active about this thing in famous social medias like Tik Tok. There are few Tik-Tokers that are one of the most active people about this problem all over the earth like Luke Mullen who is very active in Twitter too. Alex Horowitz is one of them too. There are so many people and we aren't going to be able to tell all of their names. Some of the people in the White House are against it too, like Jamal Bowman. Yeah, there are a lot of protests and I know that this is just the beginning of this. We all know that. We are the solution of this problem and if we don't help, who will? There is definitely a lot of work to do but I know that we can do it. This is our future and if we don't do something, no one will. Everything is in our hands now and this person who is doing it is not the one to ruin our future and any money cannot buy our future. So now is the time. Stand up for your rights and save our planet. Thank you all for listening to our podcast. We hope you liked it. And remember, without the earth, we are nothing.
