Homelessness can be caused by various factors such as poverty, systemic oppression, illness, job loss, substance abuse, and lack of affordable housing. Marginalized groups like people of color, queer individuals, those from lower-income backgrounds, and women are more vulnerable to homelessness. Sex work often becomes a common practice for marginalized individuals due to the lack of traditional employment opportunities and the need to survive. Exploitation and limited resources push them to use their bodies as a means to generate income. So, first off, could you explain to me what causes homelessness? Yeah, I feel like the website for the Homeless Charity Crisis sums it up really well. So, there's a lot of causes of homelessness, but some of the most common ones are poverty, any kind of systemic oppression, illness, big life events like job loss, divorce, bereavement, etc., substance abuse, and then all of those pressures compounded with the lack of affordable housing available for low-income people and the rising cost of living, and without a matched wage increase, all these things culminate to produce the kind of pressure that leads to homelessness. Okay. Most people understand that certain groups are more vulnerable to homelessness. Could you introduce a couple of groups? So, I mean, anyone who's marginalized in society, so kind of people of color, queer people, people from lower-income backgrounds, women are typically more vulnerable. And then, of course, if you have multiple marginalized identities, you are much more vulnerable and susceptible to becoming homeless. Okay. And so, obviously, sex work is quite a common practice when people are marginalized. Could you run through why that tends to happen? Yeah. So, I mean, if you're homeless, you obviously don't have an address. So, immediately, it's about a barrier to most employment in the traditional sense. And I feel like a lot of homeless people have, at some point or another, been exploited sexually. A lot of it's kind of, you know, if you're super gross, you don't have that kind of shelter. You're exposed and vulnerable. So, it feels like quite a kind of natural progression from that to kind of turning it to a vantage. And, you know, a lot of the time, people don't have the resources they need to make money. So, I mean, your body is, if it's your own capsule, that's what you're going to use to produce wealth.
