If Only You Knew

The morning devotion was led by Amanda Bedu from Harvest Chapel International. The topic was "If only you knew" and the scripture reading was from the book of Job. It discussed the importance of knowing God's thoughts and plans for us, even in the midst of suffering. It emphasized that God is always in control and will guide us through our afflictions. Please let's pray. Our Heavenly Father we thank you so much for today. Papa we pray that even as we dive into your word that you make our hearts fertile enough to receive your word and grant us the grace to apply it in our lives in Jesus name. Amen. Brethren please let's take our confession from the book of Joshua chapter 1 verse 8. This book of the law shall not depart out of my mouth but I shall meditate in it day and night that I may observe to do according to all that is written in it for then I will make my way prosperous and then I will have the success. Amen. Beloved our topic for today is titled if only you knew. If only you knew and our scripture reading is taken from Job chapter 1 verse 8 from the New King James Version. Then the Lord said to Satan have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears good and shuns evil. Amen. Our second scripture is taking from Job chapter 1 verse 18 to 21. While he was still speaking another also came and said your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house and it fell on the young people and they are dead and I alone have escaped to tell you. Then Job arose, tore his robe and shaved his head and he fell to the ground and worshipped and he said naked I came from my mother's womb and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen. If only you knew. Beloved if only we know the thoughts God has concerning us we will be strong and trust him even in the face of adversity. The book of Job gives us a glimpse into what goes on in the spiritual realm. In the first chapter we see conversations between God and Satan where God speaks of the uprightness of his servant Job. As a master the Lord was indeed pleased with Job and commended him highly. The book later unfolds in a series of rather unfortunate incidents for Job here on earth where he suffers many losses. The calamity for Job seemed very sudden unplanned unfair and painful but unknowingly it was because God had good things to say about him. Brethren our troubles and sufferings here on earth are often like that of Job. They come suddenly and painfully leaving us in a state of confusion despair and great grief. As believers sometimes it is difficult to comprehend the extent of the tragedies we face and we legitimately ask the question why? Why did God allow this to happen? But beloved the good news is that even in our suffering God is still with us. If only Job knew that God was in control all along sitting on the helm of affairs perhaps his response and posture would be different. Similarly for us if only we know that God is always in control working things together for our good. If only we know that the suffering is part of the work and that our lives affliction which is bad for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. First Corinthians chapter 4 verse 17. Beloved if only we know that God's thoughts and plans for us are good and not of evil to give us a future and a hope Jeremiah 29 11. If only we know then we will not grow weary even in the midst of affliction but rather we will be strong and still learn to trust in Him. Let us be encouraged and know that God is always on our side in rejoicing and in suffering. He is always in control. He will guide us through even in the midst of suffering. He will strengthen and comfort us. He will answer our prayers and He will bring us to unexpected end. Amen. Our memory verse is taken from 2nd Corinthians chapter 4 verse 16 to 17 from the new King James version. Therefore we do not lose heart even though our outward man is perishing yet the inward man is being renewed day by day for our life's affliction which is but for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Amen. Please let us pray. Our Father we thank you for this reminder that even in suffering you are still in control. Please grant us the grace to still lean on you and trust in you even in trying times knowing that you who has become this good work in us will bring it to unexpected end in Jesus name. Amen.
