Talk: 19880323-Larry_Rosenberg-UNK-samadhi_in_action-1548 Leandra Tejedor (1) Start_time: 51:56 Display_question: I would like to share about what I noticed during my yogi job. Keyword_search: yogi job, cushion, quality of life, cleaning toilets, spiritual life, attentive, alive, practice, wake up, awakened, sitting posture, teaching Question_content: Questioner: One of the things I was noticing, while I was doing my job this morning, that there was a difference between, what took me out of the job, is the same thing that takes me out sometimes when I'm on the cushion. It’s like, I wanted to finish it. I wanted to get through…through it real quick, at certain times, and I found myself getting caught up in that. And kind of pulling and come back… Larry: Okay. At that moment. I understand. We all know what you're talking about. The quality of your life is not quite what it could be. And the quality doesn't necessarily have to do with the activity. We're very chained to things, and objects, and situations. If nice things happen, then this is great. Let's say you're doing a real… what were you doing? Questioner: I was cleaning the toilet. Larry: Cleaning the…okay…can one find happiness, in cleaning the toilets? Well, there's great joy in cleaning the toilets, but it's not in the toilet, it's in you. The toilet is just what you happen to be doing, at that time. That's the point. So that… it would be good to do a good job, and that's part of it. You want to leave that toilet clean. I mean, if spiritual life has to do with just getting all inside, and everything else is in shambles. I don't know what we're adding to the planet, frankly. But also, when you're really attentive, you're more alive, more fully alive. And so those are real moments, in your life. And so, your encounter with the toilet, is a real piece of your life, at that moment. It's true. And for all of us, our life is made up of many, many of these small, seemingly insignificant moments. Break_line: Now, we are divided. So often in those moments, that there's a deadening effect, that carries over, that's part of our life. What the practice is an attempt to do i,s to wake us up. And this isn't just the only room that we're allowed to be awakened. This is a device. To help us. And the sitting posture is a jewel. But if we get attached to it, and fixated with it, at the expense of other things, then we're really not carrying out the teaching correctly. End_time: 54:12
