Good afternoon, it's 1.30, I'm Emma Robbins and this is Leeds Hacks Radio News. The Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, has unveiled his Spring Budget in the Commons. Our Business Reporter, Matthew Morgan, has been watching the details. Yes, the long-awaited Budget has been unveiled. Some of the details had been leaked in advance. He's confirmed he's cutting National Insurance by two pence in the pound. He's told MPs he expects inflation will drop below 2% within months. He's also announced extended freezes on alcohol and fuel fees. Many of the policies introduced by Hunt have been aimed to tackle inflation. From Citizens Advice, I today relieve pressure on around 40,000 families every year by abolishing the £90 charge completely. He'll also allocate £1m to build a memorial to Muslims killed in two world wars. Plans to increase rent prices by 7% for social housing in Leeds is underway. Part of these plans include additional charges. Leeds Housing Board Councillor Barry Anderson has more. And also it's not just rent increases that people have got to worry about, it's some of the additional charges that you've got to pay. If you're in sheltered complexes, for example, you've got to pay standing charges on top of your rent. Leeds-based Little Fox continues its six-year streak of raising money for Yorkshire charities with a craft fair this Mother's Day weekend. In support of Getting Clean, an organisation ran by former addicts to support those overcoming addiction. The event will run at the Corn Exchange Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th March, with members of the charity present on the day. Loose Day, as one of the biggest event organisers, might be leaving Leeds after the closing of nightclub Prism. This is because of the competition between them and Voodoo Events for securing venues. Greg Noble, a Loose Day manager and representative, is hoping for one last push over the next month. With Chop Local now coming to Leeds, it's been quite difficult to find an actual new venue that will be able to hold the capacity we estimated it would be. Devotion's our best seller in Leeds, but if we can't find anywhere for Chopper Local, there's no point staying in the city just for one event. A march will be taking place on the 10th of March to spread awareness of the skin condition eczema and tropical steroid withdrawal. The march will be taking place in Leeds, Bristol and London, and aims to get the attention of medical professionals to improve recognition and treatment. Campaigns such as Itsan, Scratch That and Tropical Debate are urging the government to refine regulations on the prescriptions of tropical steroids. Leeds Beckett student Oliver Frick-Harris has raised £1,040 in support of charity Project Play. Project Play builds playgrounds for children across East Africa in disadvantaged communities, and all money raised goes towards building materials. This helps enhance children's lives with volunteers who build the playground for the children. The overcast continues over from this morning with some light rain and mist to follow, and clouds will also be lingering through the afternoon, with a few lighter spells in the west later. Leeds Rhinos star Ash Handley scored twice in Saturday's victory over Catalan Dragons. The Rhinos had to defend for large portions of their 18-10 win. Head coach Rowan Smith pointed to the grit his team showed. Yeah, there was a lot of grit, teamwork, resilience that went into that probably first 20-30 minutes. Some of it by our own doing of course, maybe overplaying our hand, but I love the bravery of our players today to play a bit of footy. Leeds Beckett University track and field coach Andrew Henderson has praised the coaching and facilities at the university. Fourteen Beckett athletes competed in the Tokyo Olympics for Team GB in 2022. He is hopeful that the university can continue its success in this year's Paris Olympics. For me the biggest thing is coaching. I'd like to think that athletes are going to come here for a coaching set up, and then also now the training group as well. For me that's why I would like athletes to come here. Arsenal women's striker Alessia Russo says the club is pushing for the team to play at the Emirates Stadium on a regular basis. They've sold out back-to-back fixtures in the women's Super League. Russo told Sky Sports News it's a huge step forward. This season's been incredible, and to show that we can sell it out consistently and doing a really good job at it too is credit to the club. Leeds Hacks News, it's 1.34pm.
