Nothing to say, yet
In this podcast episode, the host discusses the concept of delayed gratification. He explains that constantly seeking instant gratification through easy options and shortcuts will not lead to long-term success. Instead, he encourages listeners to focus on their bigger goals and be willing to put in the hard work, commitment, and sacrifice required to achieve them. He emphasizes the importance of consistency, avoiding cutting corners, and staying dedicated to daily habits. The host also mentions his own struggle with instant gratification and urges listeners to identify areas where they may be taking shortcuts and commit to putting in the extra effort. He concludes by highlighting the satisfaction that comes from achieving goals through hard work and the need to play the long game for lasting results. Fy enw i yw Arwen, felly welcome to another episode of the Extra Mile podcast. So what we're going to go over today, my mate, is something that we briefly spoke about on the Monday Reset yesterday, okay? And I want to go into it in more detail because I feel as if I just skimmed past it, right? And it was basically like delayed gratification, right? So what I mean by this is, like, prolonging that feeling of excitement or that feeling of gratitude. Because, like, see, if you're constantly going for instant gratification, man, like scrolling through your phone, getting a takeaway, man, fucking picking easy option acts and stuff, we're ultimately not going to get to where we want to be, okay? Because what you need to think about is, let's see where we want to be. That takes hard work, that takes grafting, it takes commitment, it takes sacrifice, right? And if you're constantly chasing that instant gratification, then you're not going to get that long-term life-changing result. It's as simple as that, guys. So what I want you to kind of think about is going, like, what are you constantly looking for or taking as instant gratification? So, I mean, it might be, like, three extra five minutes in bed. It was, like, as Dempsey said on the call last night when I was, like, going, like, what is that energy booster in the morning? And Dempsey was, like, get up, straight away, do not let yourself go back to sleep for five minutes. Like, who here is letting herself go back to sleep for five minutes? Christ, I know what I've been doing a couple of times while I'm invalid, do you know what I mean? And it's been setting me back, and that's been my instant gratification. I'm, like, no, that needs to stop, do you know what I mean? Because it's not serving me, guys, and I want you to really think about it. And, like, I've been thinking a lot of, like, delayed gratification recently because, obviously, what we're training for at the moment, right? Long, gruelling runs, like, fucking really, really hard session, guys, right? And I know I keep going on about that. And it's, like, it's a grind, it's a fucking graft, man. I don't like it. It's fucking 30 degree heats over here, man, right? It's brutal. But I know that feeling, like, I'm manifesting that feeling out of borders. That's what I'm waiting for. That is the gratification I'm looking for. And that is months away. So, I mean, but it's always going through my head. And, guys, it's similar to you. See if you're working towards a marathon, a half marathon, fucking high rocks, your fat loss journey, a photo shoot, whatever it may be, guys, right? You need to play the bigger game with it. You need to look at it and go, right, what do I want to look back at? And, as I said last night, think, fuck, I've done that. Do you know what I mean? Is it going to be cutting corners on your nutrition, guesstimating shit when you should be actually weighing it out? Or is it going to be, like, do you know what? Actually locking in, weighing everything out to the absolute T, putting the effort and energy into it, man, putting yourself first, making sure the basics are in place, having your non-negotiables in place and making sure it's getting done daily, guys. So, as I say, as well, man, see, even, like, to touch on water and nutrition as well, guys, like, see if it's, like, you are weighing stuff out when you feel like it. It's not going to get you anywhere. Do you know what I mean? Like, you need to be doing that every single time. You need to be putting that effort into that. And, guys, it's not glamorous. It's not fun. You're not going to get any gratification off it. You just aren't. But you need to be doing it. It's as black and white as that, guys, and that's where the results come from. And, as I say, like, see if you feel as if you're just constantly doing the same thing. It's getting a bit boring, man. Like, you're just like, fucking hell, man, my habits are staying the same. Good. That means you're in flow state. That means you're in a good spot, man, and you will be progressing forward and you will be seeing the changes that you want to see, even though you might not be feeling them every single day, but you will be getting the changes, man, and it's because you're playing a long game. And it's like, as we always say, guys, right, like, some people come on board and they're like, all right, I'm going to achieve this in 30 days, and it just doesn't happen, man, right? There was somebody that actually thought that's what was going to happen, and it didn't happen, obviously, do you know what I mean? Like, fucking sod law, there's no here, anywhere, right? But it's one of those ones that, because you think something's going to happen straight away, it doesn't mean it's going to happen, man, it's definitely not going to happen. You need to be looking at it from a bigger lens and going, do you know what, this is going to take time, but that doesn't mean that you go in half-assed over time. Do you know what I mean? You go all in all the time. Do you know what I mean? And you give your all to it and all that kind of stuff, man, and it's like, it might seem like a bit of a boy, it might seem like a bit like a slug, but it's the lifestyle you're trying to create, and that's the lifestyle of just trying to constantly be better, trying to constantly improve yourself and go to that next level. Do you know what I mean? And as I say, guys, constantly go the extra mile. And I want you to just kind of look at that across the board, man, like, what is the thing that you are, like, yeah, cutting corners to a degree. Like, what is it that you're just looking at and going, oh, fuck it, man, just better? Do you know what I mean? Like, just ease it, fuck it. What is it? Because I guarantee you that's what's holding you back. Do you know what I mean? And it'll be something that can be fixed with just a wee bit extra, like, hard work. Do you know what I mean? Nothing mental, just a wee bit more hard work and dedication towards it and not looking for the easy option outwith it, man. Do you know what I mean? So I want you to just sit and think about that, man. It could be something very, very simple, or it could be something that you're not even aware of, but after taking a step back after listening to this podcast, you go, all right, this is exactly what it is. This is what I need to focus on. This is what I need to stop cutting corners with, guys. It's like I've just admitted it as well at the start of the podcast, man. Like, for us, since we've been in Bali, man, I've been getting a wee bit extra sleep in the morning because I'm like, ah, my day doesn't start till later. Doesn't fucking serve me, but does it? Do you know what I mean? which I don't need. Do you know what I mean? So I need to rectify that, and that's me, guys. So see if I'm doing something, I know you are doing something as well, okay? So have a wee thought process of that, guys, because, again, the more that you lean into delayed gratification, man, you're going to see the results, right? But ultimately, you're going to feel so much better than yourself, man, because you're building resilience. You're working hard towards something, and seeing you get to that marker, it's not something by luck. It's not by chance. It's through to your hard work, and anyone will know this. See, if you've worked hard for something, and you achieve that goal, it feels so much better than it's just been handed to you. Do you know what I mean? And it's not as if, like, when it comes to, like, work, sometimes you do end up just getting handed an opportunity. Well, I still strongly believe that you need to earn that opportunity, right? But it's not like something like that. It's like when it comes to your transformation, if you don't do the work, you will not get the transformation. It's as simple as that. Whether that's if you want to be faster, if you want to be stronger, if you want to be leaner, if you want to look better with your clothes off, whatever it may be, man, right? It doesn't happen unless you're willing to play the long game and do the work, guys. Okay, so I want you to really, really think about this today, right? And drop it in the comments below. What is something that you are constantly taking instant gratification off that you know you need to be playing the long game with? And what is the big goal? What is the big target that needs delayed gratification, that needs the two Ps to be put in the machine in order to make it a reality?
