Coffee Break (5 Minutes with God) Romans 15:1-6
The speaker discusses the importance of using our strength to help those who are weaker, both physically and spiritually. He emphasizes the need to be patient and understanding with others while teaching them the truth of God's Word. The passage encourages Christians to please their neighbors and build each other up in faith, following the example of Christ who sacrificed his rights for our sake. Reading the Bible brings encouragement and hope, and unity among Christians brings glory to God. The speaker invites listeners to study God's Word with him and support the ministry. Welcome to Coffee Break, five minutes with God, five minutes in the Word of God, five minutes designed to taste and see that the Lord is good. My name is Michael Moret, Romans 15 verse 1. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. If we are strong then we shouldn't use our strength to get our own way as Christians. Instead we should use our strength to help those who are not strong. I mean it goes for the physical realm and the spiritual realm which is what he's talking about here. If we are strong spiritually then we should use our spiritual strength and by that spiritual strength set aside our freedom in Christ and put up with the sensitive consciences of weak Christians while teaching them what the Word of God truly says and where it contradicts with what their beliefs are. There always needs to be instruction but there's a time of learning, there's a time of understanding and in that interval just put up with them and bend over backwards to make them comfortable while always proclaiming the truth of God's Word. Two, let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. Of course this builds right on what he said in verse 1. God is saying to watch out for the other guy. Make it a point to help your fellow Christian grow strong in their faith. And here's the reason why, look at verse 3, for even Christ pleased not himself but as it is written the reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. So once again as in everything Jesus is our great example and here we see that Jesus willingly gave up his rights, meaning the rights and privileges of deity, of Almighty God, so that he could give us eternal life. He came to his creation, he allowed his creation to abuse him and kill him even though he was sinless and God, but he did it so that at least some of us would end up going to heaven. And no matter how much we sacrifice as Christians for the good of others, it never even begins to come close to the enormous sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the privileges that he laid aside for unworthy sinners. That's something to keep in mind. Verse 4, for whatever things were written in earlier times were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Reading the word of God will give Christians encouragement when discouragement begins to set in and it gives us hope too. Five, now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus. Following Jesus Christ brings unity among Christians, it really does. Christ leads his people to be unselfish and humble and if people are unselfish and humble they're going to get along just fine with each other. Six, that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Unity among Christians brings glory to God and it honors him because we are his children. Bickering children reflect badly on their parents, bickering Christians dishonor God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. So have that Jesus focus and you'll get along.
