Dogfighting is a cruel and illegal activity discussed in a CNN article. It became a federal crime in 2007, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Dogs are trained to fight each other for entertainment and gambling. They are subjected to physical and psychological harm, with methods like shred mills and spring pulls used to make them stronger. Dogs are tied down with weighted chains and injected with drugs to increase aggression. They fight in organized matches and sustain serious injuries. Some survive but suffer long-term trauma. Dogfighting is associated with other crimes like dog trafficking and violence. Sadly, not all dogs can be adopted due to their aggression. Hi my name is Nevaeh and in my podcast today I will be talking about an article I saw on CNN discussing dogfighting. Now dogfighting is a cruel and very illegal activity that remains a problem in various parts of the world. Dogfighting became a federal level felony back in 2007 and you can earn yourself up to 5 years in a federal prison for dogfighting. It involves training dogs to fight with each other for entertainment and gambling profits. This organized form of animal cruelty infects severe physical and psychological harm on dogs. These people use shred mills to make the dog stronger and faster as well as spring pulls where the dog jumps and latches onto something to strengthen their jaw. They are also tied down with weighted chains to increase their strength and some dogs are even injected with drugs or vitamins to increase aggression. Dogs fight in their weight class and some are even starved to stay in that weight class. These dogs are forced to fight in organized matches where they sustain serious injuries like wounds and broken bones. Many dogs even die as a result of these fights while others survive and often suffer a very long time from physical and emotional trauma. Dogfighting can also be associated with other criminal activities such as dog trafficking and violence. Sadly, while some dogs are given a second chance at life and are able to get adopted, other dogs are not because they were made to be too aggressive. And as an animal lover, that breaks my heart.
