The Goaly United team had a positive weekend with a 1-0 win on Friday and a draw on Monday. They performed well defensively and got four points from the two games. There was some controversy over a disallowed goal, but overall, the results were fair. The manager's comments about a player from the opposing team were criticized. Despite missing their captain and another player, Goaly United still had a good result against Sligo. The discussion also briefly touched on the women's team before the call ended abruptly. So it has to be, you have to. Hello everyone and you're very welcome back to the Goaly Soccer Pod. We'll start it off with Goaly United chat, a very positive weekend where it started off on Friday night with a 1-0 win against Shelburne and then just last night a nil-all draw against Liger Rovers in the Connacht Derby. So Kevin I'll start off with you, four points to those two games is excellent isn't it? Yeah it's a really good weekend really, I thought Friday night's performance was really really good. Good goal from former regional United man Ed McCarthy following a great, was it Dervan across the net? Yeah, yeah. And then sure Dervan then he hit the post in the, at the end of that half. I think we were surprised weren't we lads that Shells went with a kind of a 4-4-2 diamond or weren't they? We expected them to play a 4-2-3-1. Obviously they went, they changed their formation to try and counteract us, but I thought we did well. Same old, same old, good defensively as we said on Twitter, you know, one goal scored in the last three games, zero goals conceded and five points picked up, you know, really good. Yeah, Friday night was an excellent performance, fully deserved win I thought, I got the prediction right, I had a feeling that we'd win 1-0 and we did. I thought Rob Stevens and Alameen Kazem were excellent at the back and of course we mentioned Ed McCarthy and Dave Dervan as the ones further up the field that really stood out to us. Shells, yeah we spoke about their shape alright and it was interesting that they pushed Liam Burtt, Liam Burtt out wide to start the second half then, he was in more central areas in the first half and he wasn't as effective and, you know, we saw ourselves a few chances they had in the second half when he was on the left-hand side and then later on the right-hand side when Will Jarvis came on he switched sides so his pace and his directness was a real, you know, it's causing teams problems up and down the league so we managed to nullify that and we held out for a well-deserved result I thought and then Monday night, you know, was always going to be a difficult one, the Friday-Monday games, relentless, it's a very short turnaround but we deserved a point, we definitely did. I know there was a bit of controversy over the goal that was not allowed but at the same time, you know, I think Sligo could have claims that they could have had a penalty early on in that game so we could have possibly got away with one at that moment but then the goal itself that we scored, it's, you know, 6-1, sometimes they're given, sometimes they're not so we can't really have too many complaints I think. Yeah, definitely, I think Friday night was an excellent performance, deserved the win, the goal was great and then last night, a good away for us, probably shaky first 30 minutes, we changed the shape then into the second half, we started off with a 4-4-2, we kind of reverted back to our 4-2-3-1 I believe it was in the second half and we definitely performed a lot better. I thought it was harsh, I thought that goal should have stood in the second half, I don't know who scored it in the end, it was this loud anyway but yeah, they probably deserved a penalty so a draw was a fair result I'd say. Yeah, I think as well, I think obviously, I know it's touched on a lot that last time we did a Friday game and a Monday, doubleheader, bet Derry away lost the ball at home, it was clear that was a real focus that Monday game because I think the players were in training on Saturday and Sunday, so they were obviously playing the game Friday, were in training Saturday and Sunday which is highly unusual and Monday and look, they got the reward, they got the result up in Sligo. Regarding that goal, I just think, look as he said, looking back on it, I looked back on that penalty or what it probably was, but on the flip side of that, the goal, I've never seen anything like that where the two players of one team collide, if nothing to do with a goal in the United player, there was no head injury and I think we touched on it as well, the second delay, the referee waited for it to see what was going to happen, I really think if he was going to go it should have blown us straight away but look, probably it evened out there as he kind of said, but good result, I think as well on Friday, I thought Shell's not starting Jervis, when the team sheet came out there around half six, I'd say you were the same lads, oh my god, when I seen Jervis wasn't on there at 11, I was like, we've got a chance here, they obviously had Rovers and Mimes on Monday night, they didn't play Jervis who I thought was excellent for them against us in Tolka, I was delighted to see, he wasn't starting and then obviously Mark Coyle, the Burke canter, he wasn't playing as well which was massive, probably two of their best players. What are your thoughts on Duff's injury after the Rovers game on Monday calling out one of their attackers? Yeah I thought it was crazy, I don't think he's that poor man management, you can't go to the media with that in my opinion anyway, look Duff knows a lot more than me but I thought it was absolutely bizarre and it would be very hard for Farrell to come back from those comments and play for Shelburne. Yeah Berkley, what are your thoughts on his comments on Shane Farrell? Yeah look it probably wouldn't be what we'd want from our manager if we were playing or probably not what we'd do ourselves if we were in that position, but look Jamie and Duff has over a hundred caps for Ireland, he's played under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Giovanni Trapattoni, I think the other guys know a lot more than we do, so he's obviously had the experience of being dressed in with men like that and it shaped his understanding of how to manage teams and how to manage individuals, so you know it'd be difficult, it was a difficult pill to swallow for Shane Farrell, I'd say Monday night, but he's a good player, he's been a fan favourite with Shelburne and I'm sure that he's spoken highly of Duffer in the past, I think that's worth pointing out, he's spoken really highly about Duffer has helped him with his own personal life, so you know maybe it's just a tactic that Duff is using to try and extract the most he can out of Farrell, so hopefully that they can use this in a positive light and Farrell will bounce back from it. Yeah just personally I think Duff is a really good manager, he's done an excellent job over Shel's past, you know since he's been in charity he's done a really good job, but personally I don't agree with it, he obviously tried to get it through to him personally away from the media and he obviously felt that that hasn't worked and has now gone to the media kind of to maybe get a kick out of him, I think Sean and Ciarán you kind of said there, I really don't know, Duff's an excellent manager but I don't think it's the best way to go about it to be honest. Yeah definitely and one final thing on Gael United last night, they were without Conor McCormack the captain and they were without Sean Caulfield who was suspended, so in fairness that is some results considering the two of those top leaders were missing. Were we really without Sean Caulfield? Well he wasn't on the touch slide, we'll leave it at that. Yeah and you said you watched Sligo a good bit this year Sean, do you think, do they play the way you expect them to play? Yeah like they dominated possession but they didn't really create too many chances, like they were on top in the first 30 minutes definitely, 100%. They probably deserved to be 1-0 up, we then took over for the last five minutes of the first half and then into the second half I think we were a slightly better team but I think the draw was a very fair result. Do you mind me asking how do you watch them on a Saturday night? I have, I pay for League of Ireland TV. We'll move on quickly on to the results from last week. No the women's, the women's. Oh sorry, Gael United women's, how can I brush over that? How can I brush over that? He's gone, he's just, his phone's only died now I don't know. I see his phone's offline. I don't know how to text in here. How can I brush over that? I knew, I knew it was coming as well, I knew it was coming where he was going to bring out the women's. His phone's definitely after time. Wow, if it is, it is. Yeah, give it a minute now. Yeah, if it is, it is, I can get back to it. He was almost like his screen was gone and he goes oh shit or something. Did he? I didn't hear that. He goes something like oh no or something, like his phone is gone. I saw the screen go on and then it just vanished. Yeah, that's a, I think that's, I'd say it's a phone, I'd say it's a phone died because if it was Antonellis they'd just go, he kind of went in a gradual, in a gradual, I have the recording anyways which is a good thing. Am I better off ending this meeting so we get a new one? So, he comes back, right? We're only going to get 15 minutes and we're going to get a new one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
