professional life hey hey everybody welcome back to another episode of the Christian career coach I'm Susan of course your host and today we're tackling that question do you need a career coach now obviously as a career coach myself I'm a firm believer that everyone can benefit from the guidance of a career coach but I also recognize that not everyone needs a coach right away it's important to understand when it's appropriate to utilize your own you know kind of do it yourself resources versus investing in coaching of course while incorporating Christian principles you see career development can be divided into various phases it can be career exploration where you're really just kind of exploring what's out there it could be job search so it's actually doing a job search and searching for a position there's also the phase of interview and negotiation so getting through that job interview knowing what to say knowing what not to say how to act how to dress and then negotiating when you get that offer how do you negotiate for a higher salary of course there's identity and offerings and then of course career management you know thinking of identity and offerings what is the company offering to you what's the the company culture you know do you do you personally identify with the culture of the company and then that career management you know managing your career once you actually get into a role each of these phases presents unique challenges and opportunities but they all have one thing in common they can be approached through a Christian lens when you think about the career exploration and the job search phase some do-it-yourself resources can be incredibly valuable this can include everything from articles that you read podcasts that you listen to any courses that you take whether it's in a classroom or online and of course any videos that you can catch and and see and watch whether it's short ones on tick-tock or actual videos that you can you know research through YouTube or on a website or something like that they're going to provide information and tools that you need to explore different career options and execute a successful job search all while staying true to your faith because you'll be able to find things about those companies and about those jobs to know if it lines up with your faith during this particular job search phase and career exploration phase however there does come a point when doing it yourself may not be enough when you start to feel overwhelmed by all the information out there or when you need a personalized strategy that aligns with who you are or when you're struggling to navigate the interview and negotiation process that's when investing in coaching becomes essential and as Christians we believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us and sometimes we need a little help discerning what that plan actually is so how do you choose a Christian career coach well there's several factors to consider first and foremost you want to find someone who is experienced and knowledgeable in your industry but who also shares your Christian values you also want to make sure that the coaches approach aligns with your own values and goals and that they're committed to helping you honor God in your career at the end of the day whether you choose to do it yourself or invest in coaching the most important thing is to take ownership of your career explore different options seek out guidance when needed and always be open to learning and growing and remember it says in Proverbs 3 6 in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your path what a powerful verse that is if you really sit and think about it as it relates to your career I want to also mention you want to do your research on the career coach that you are thinking about using you want to make sure that they do have the knowledge and the credentials so they know how to guide you in a legal way as well because certainly there's things that you don't want to get caught up in saying or doing that might get you into trouble throughout the process I know that could probably relate more to the employers than the job seeker but it does still apply to the job seeker so consider those things about the career coach as you do your research if you have been searching for a job for a while and aren't getting offers or interviews or if you're in a place where you're confused about who you are and what you even have to offer a company or when you're interested in in career management and you want someone outside the organization that can help you approach situations strategically that's another point when a career coach and in making that investment in a career coach becomes essential so I know this was kind of a short episode but the point that I'm making is when you sit and think and reflect about your career and you feel like you can do this you got this you're a confident person you know how to search for a job you know how to write a resume you know how to do all of those things yet you still find yourself feeling a little bit lost or maybe not going in the right direction or feeling overwhelmed or disappointed it may be time for you to consider making that investment it's always great to have someone on the outside that can be objective and provide the advice and tools and resources that you need that will help navigate through your job search or through your career journey so keep this in mind as you sit and reflect about your career and you know obviously I want you to do it yourself as much as possible you know get yourself to a point and if you can get yourself to a point in your career where you can blossom and grow and things are awesome for you then hallelujah that is awesome but if you do have those feelings that things are just not working out the way that you planned you're not getting interviews you're not getting callbacks you're frustrated and you're just feeling burnt out from the whole job search process even if you've just been doing it passively for the last year or even six months but still not getting any hits it
