The carrier rate of this infection is low in adults but high in children, and it is a severe infection. It causes about 1,200 to 1,900 deaths per year and there are 11,000 to 24,000 cases annually. For epidemiology, frequency of infections trends tend to show the carrier rate in adults is low, but up to 20% in children. The severity of infection is pretty high. About 1,200 to 1,900 people die per year because of this infection. And cases per year are extremely high, anywhere from 11,000 to 24,000 cases per year.
