Terence
Terence, whose full name was Publius Terentius Afer and who was of Berber descent, was a playwright during the Roman Republic. His comedies were first performed around 170-160 BC. Terentius Lucanus, a Roman senator, brought Terence to Rome as a slave and educated him. Later, impressed by Terence's abilities, Lucanus freed him. Terence died at a young age, likely in Greece or while returning to Rome. All six of the plays that Terence wrote have been preserved.
