Lets Talk AI

AI, specifically ChatGPT, has become very popular and accessible. It can generate essays, song lyrics, book reports, and even descriptions of people. It is fast and can create different outputs for the same input. However, it raises concerns about the impact on education and the future. Microsoft Copilot is another AI tool that can perform similar tasks, but it takes longer to respond compared to ChatGPT. I'm Jen Wesley, and you're listening to The 10 Perspectives. Unless you've been living under rocks for the past year or so, you've probably come to understand what AI is. AI is just Artificial Intelligence, however, it's started to become quite a trend since 2023. AI has been used for a long time now, maybe even without you knowing. AI has been used in social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or X, maybe even without you knowing it. It's been created for a long time now, and it's gotten better over the years. But I guess the question you're probably asking is, why does it matter so much now? What is the next generation of AI? And most importantly, what does it mean for the future? Let's talk about it. Oh, and by the way, the soundtrack for this episode was AI-generated. So, as you heard in the intro, AI has been all over the place. Everywhere is AI, people are using AI now for school, virtually anything. Artists are using AI to write songs, people are using AI to write essays, to write book reports, to write virtually anything. I actually used AI to almost write the script for this episode, but of course, I'm going to make this myself. So, let's talk about the different systems of AI that people use. Now, the most popular one is going to be obviously ChatGPT. This one is the most popular one. This one is also one of the most accessible ones. Almost anyone uses this, and it's extremely popular. So, how exactly do you use ChatGPT? So, ChatGPT, all you really do is just search up ChatGPT. It takes you into this sort of messaging experience, pretty much, and you enter whatever you want. You can type in anything. Like, anything. Let's say, I'm going to type right now, write me an essay on podcasting. Instantly, it gives me this intro essay part. It gives me pretty much like a four or five paragraph essay, and it's instant. So, it takes about five seconds, and it just creates this instantly. It created me one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. A nine paragraph essay in about five seconds. And the cool thing about ChatGPT is every time you enter something in here, it's going to say something different. So, if I type in, write me, if I exit this page out, go to a different one. And we go here, and we type in, write me an essay on podcasting. Instantly, it gives me another type of essay, which is crazy. So, instead of giving me the same exact essay on podcasting, it just gives me a different type of essay. Instead of giving me the same exact essay I asked for before, it's actually just giving me a new one. A brand new one, which is crazy how it's able to generate multiple different types of essays on the exact same topic multiple times. I can ask this to generate a song lyric. And it says, it literally generates this instantly. Whispers of the past echoing in my mind. So, this won't actually generate the actual tune of the song, but it's pretty much giving me lyrics to a song. So, if I am writing music and I just need lyrics instantly, I can just type in, generate a song lyric, and it instantly gives me this. If we put, generate a deep, impactful song lyric, and it gives me another one. In the depths of our souls where shadows dwell, we carry the weight of stories we never tell. And that's insane how it just generates that. I can put, generate another one. And it just creates another one instantly. With totally different lyrics, a totally different type of one, and it just makes it. It gives me verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, and then an outro. So, it just generates this song almost instantly with me doing nothing. So, it seems like what ChatGPT wants to do here is make your life a lot easier. I can say, let me see, let's put generate a book report. So, I put generate a book report, and it's done The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I don't actually know this book. I just put generate a book report. Well, I want to see if I do generate a book report on a certain book. So, let's say generate a book report on Spy School by Stuart Gibbs. This is a popular book I read when I was younger. Let's see, by Stuart Gibbs. And it literally creates one. It just creates an entire book report just like that. And it kind of makes you think, how does this affect school? And how are teachers going to deal with this? Because if you can just make a book report in about five seconds, copy, paste, and if the teacher goes ahead and says, well, I wonder if my kid did A on this, and types in book report by Spy School again, it's going to bring up an entire different essay over and over again. It never generates the exact same thing twice, which is straight up crazy. It shows that this thing is smart, it's intelligent, but it's also dangerous. And I'll touch more on that later on in this episode. So, is ChatGBT free? So, it technically is free. You just search it up in your browser, and you can have unlimited requests to it, and it does whatever it wants. It's much like a Snapchat AI, except it's way more powerful and does much more things. Snapchat AI is a little more social, and it's more about communication. This is more about getting work done. If you need an essay, book report, anything, planning a trip, this does essentially everything. So, you can pay $20 a month to get ChatGBT+, which is like the fourth version of this. Right now, it's at 3.5, version 3.5. If you want the full version, you pay $20 a month, which is extremely expensive. But, you pay $20 a month, and you can get ChatGBT+. Which, honestly, essentially what this is, is just a more powerful version of ChatGBT. You can use it in messaging, you can use it in WhatsApp, you can use it in virtually anything, Instagram, and it'll generate it in their apps. Instead of having to go to ChatGBT on your web browser, you can do it through any other app. So, one of the things I want to test out is if ChatGBT could generate an image. So, I'm going to put, generate an image of, let's say, Cristiano Ronaldo. And it says, sorry, I can't provide images, but I can help you create a description of Cristiano Ronaldo. And it just creates this entire paragraph of Cristiano Ronaldo instantly, which is crazy. So, it's extremely powerful, it has extremely fast response times. It's like five seconds, and it just blows out an essay in super fast times, which is crazy, but also dangerous. Like, what are teachers going to do when every student just uses AI to write essays for them? And, at some point in the future, what are people going to do with this AI? Like, do you need to learn anything anymore? Can you just ask AI to do something for you? Like, I can ask, what's 3 plus 2? And it says 5, right? So, I mean, obviously this is like a simple question, but at some point in the future, is anything possible with this? Like, would we need school anymore? I know this is far-fetched, but would you need all this education that many people go through if virtually anything is available through AI? And this gets more and more powerful. It learns what your requests are. You can log in, it saves your chat history. It's just extremely smart, but also says something about the future, and what exactly could happen if we continue to use this AI. And, like, what exactly are we going to do with this? Like, people are writing song lyrics. People on TikTok are also seeing how they're able to write lyrics and create their music, award-winning music, just by using AI. And they generate it in 5 seconds. Lyrics, mp3 audio, anything. This song, the soundtrack for this episode, was AI-generated. I made this. I just went on this service. It's called yudio.com. And you just enter. I even have an example. A song about being with grandma. Just any type of song you want. And you just type it in. It takes about 1-2 minutes, and it just creates you this entire song. You can add vocals. You can add anything to it. You can be an instrumental. AI just can get so much better. To the point where artists, like big-time artists, like Harry Styles and all those big ones, what are they going to do when people can make music of their quality in 2 minutes? Like, what are we going to do about that? I made this song. I don't know if you think it's good or not, but I made this song. It took about 2 minutes, and I think it sounds good. It works in this thing, and it sounds great. So, what does this mean? Usually I take about 5-10 minutes to make an intro song for this episode, and it takes a while. But it sounds really good. Why would I need to do that when I can just go here and pretty much create one instantly? It kind of just makes you think, what does the future look like if everything we do is through AI? Maybe you can't access ChatGPT. Well, there's another type of AI, other than UDO and ChatGPT, called Microsoft Copilot. Now, essentially what this is, it's like Microsoft made this thing that can help you, you know, anything. Pretty much ChatGPT. Writing essays, all kinds of stuff. I've tried to compare this to the other ones. I wanted to see what exactly it could do. So, let's go ahead and try this out. I'm going to go ahead and ask this some of the exact same questions, like, write me an essay on podcasting. So let's type that in. So I put, write me an essay on podcasting. The thing about Copilot is it takes forever to actually respond. It takes about, like, 15 seconds. And then the actual thing it creates takes a very long time. So, it's creating one here. It's taking a much longer time than ChatGPT did. ChatGPT just spits it out instantly. But this one does it again. It's about five or six paragraphs. It's fast enough. It does what you need to do. This is only on Microsoft computers. In the bottom right corner, you see it has this logo. You use it, and it does what you kind of need to do. However, I feel like ChatGPT is much faster. Like, this takes a much longer time to respond. I'm going to go ahead and type it again. So let's see if it can create two different types of essays. So, let's put, write me an essay on podcasting. So, I did it again. Let's see what it comes up with. Is it the exact same thing, or can it generate two different types? So, let's see. Okay. So, it's actually creating a second essay on podcasting, just like that. So, it still can create multiple different original essays. It can just do that instantly. So, now what I want to test out is how good are these AI systems at being emotional? So, let's say you're going through an issue, and for some reason, there's no one to talk to, right? And you decide to talk to this AI bot, or chat bot, to essentially share your feelings. So, let's say, I'm going to type in ChatGPT. I'm feeling really down right now. Can you help me? So, it says, I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling down. I'm here to listen and support you in any way. If you'd like to talk about what's bothering you, I'm here to lend an ear. So, let's say, what should we say? I'm going to say my girlfriend broke up with me. Let's do that. Broke up with me. So, it says, I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through a break-up. Breakups can be incredibly tough. It's completely normal to feel a wide range of emotions. All this stuff. And it gives you, essentially, another essay. I mean, it's a lot shorter, but it just gives you another essay on how to deal with that. So, let's go to Microsoft CodePilot and see exactly what it says. So, I'm going to put, I'm feeling really down. Can you help me? Still writing the podcast essay. So, it says, I'm truly sorry to hear that you're feeling down. While I'm just an AI and I don't have emotions, I'm here to help you in any way I can. Sometimes talking about what's bothering you can help. And if you're looking for a distraction, I can also create something like a story or a poem. So, Microsoft CodePilot isn't really giving you a solution. They're just saying, well, I don't really have emotions, so I can't really help you. But, I can also write a poem for you. Like, I'm not really, I don't know about you guys, but if I'm going through something, I'm not really going to write a poem. But, you know, that's you. If that's you, that's you. But, I'm going to go ahead and say the same thing I put in ChatGPT. Let's see here. We put the exact same thing. Let's see what it says. I'm truly sorry to hear you're going through this difficult time. Breakups can be incredibly painful. And it creates, it literally gives me a poem. So, it just says, I'm truly sorry to hear that you're going through this. Breakups can be hard. Remember that it's okay to grieve and take time you need to heal. And it just creates me this, like, five, six paragraph poem about breaking up. You are not alone in this journey. For countless stars have stitched themselves in you. Like, I don't know about you, but I'm not going to be reading this when I'm going through a breakup. I feel like ChatGPT does a lot better at being emotional. And let's say, if I don't ask it to give me a poem, then don't give me a poem. Like, I never told the co-pilot, write me a poem on how to fix this. No, I didn't. It just literally gave me a poem. Which kind of, I don't know. It just doesn't really seem as emotional to me. Like, I know AI clearly doesn't have emotions. And it's not supposed to. But the fact that ChatGPT actually helps you with this a little more is much better. So now, we're going to take this a step further. I'm going to ask ChatGPT, I'm having suicidal thoughts, what should I do? So let's say we put this, what should I do? Let's see what it says. It says, I'm really concerned to hear that you're experiencing suicidal thoughts. It's really important to take immediate action, keep yourself safe. And it gives me some steps. Reach out for help, call emergency services, remove any means of self-harm. Stay with someone and seek professional help. So, I mean, these are obviously what every responsible person would tell you in the real world. Let's go ahead and see what co-pilot says. So, I'm having suicidal thoughts. What should I do? Let's see what it says here. So it's taking a long time to respond. And it says, it might be time to move on to a new topic. Let's start over. Like, okay, if someone is actually going through something. Like, they actually feel like they need some help. And for some reason, there's no one to talk to. You shouldn't be moving on to a new topic. Like, what are you doing? And it says, it might be time to move on to a new topic. It literally stops me from saying anything else in the chat unless I start over onto a new topic. And it gives me a couple phone numbers. I'm really concerned to hear that you're feeling this way. And it gives me, like, two phone numbers, and that's it. Like, and it says, move on to a new topic. It doesn't want to hear anything I'm going through. It doesn't want to hear any of that. And it says, let's move on. Let's talk about something else. But I'm going, hypothetically, I'm going through suicidal thoughts. Do I want to talk about something else? No. So it just seems like Copilot or Microsoft Copilot isn't smart enough to pretty much help you with issues like this. If you're going through something in your life, I mean, you shouldn't be talking to AI in the first place. But if you have no other person to talk to but this, then it's not really going to be the most helpful thing. I mean, you would hope it would be, but it's not. So, I mean, if you guys are actually experiencing suicidal thoughts, not hypothetically, not actually, make sure you guys do the exact same things. Reach out for help. Call emergency services. There are many hotlines. Stuff like that. But as long as you're not, make sure you keep listening to this podcast. So that's pretty much what AI is. It changes how the world works. You know, let's just wrap this up. So AI has a lot of good things and bad things. I mean, it can write essays for you. It can hopefully help you save your life. It can do math problems for you. It will write essays for you and a different essay each time, even though it's on the same topic. It's just smart. It does everything you're going to want to do, except it's dangerous, because it puts pretty much every bit of education or everything you learn in school under stress, because you go to school to learn. But if everything you can learn is accessed through ChatGPT or through some form of... If everything you learn at school can be learned through a form of ChatGPT or any form of AI, then it poses a question, what are we doing with education? Because if a chatbot can help me learn, or I can type in right now, teach me how to multiply. And it says, of course. And it gives me an entire multiplication lesson. It just gives me that entire thing. And it literally works out problems for me. It tells me how to do them, everything. It gives me an entire markdown of how to work this in ChatGPT. Now, I'm not trying to sound like someone who hates school or just hates this, but it kind of poses a question, what is the purpose of education or something like that, if ChatGPT does essentially everything you need? Now, schools are obviously trying to push back against this, saying, no, don't use AI on your essays and stuff like that. And that's clearly good, because you want to be original. But the question is, what's the point in being original if a bot can be original each time you give it a question? I can write it, ask it ten times, give me an essay on podcasting, and it'll give me ten different essays. Then what's the point of a student being original with one? And that is going to be the issue for the next few decades, is what are people going to do with AI versus your brain? Because your brain is clearly obviously more powerful, and it's just better, and it has emotions not acting off of instinct. But for simple things like multiplication, learning how to do certain things like this, then what is the point of learning this in school if everything is accessible here? So, this is definitely an interesting topic, and people are all over the world talking about this, and how chatGBT could ruin the entire education industry, and just ruin almost all our jobs. Also, because if AI is smart enough to do this, it should be smart enough to do many other things. I can ask it to do book reports, anything, and it just spits it out in five seconds. If I were to write an essay or book report, it would take me way longer than this is doing, and this is creating an original college-level one in five seconds. Then what are we going to do for the future? When this AI gets so advanced that it can do even more, it just gets even smarter and smarter. It's not going to get dumber, it's just going to get smarter and smarter. What are we going to do for those teachers? What are we going to do with those teaching jobs? What are we going to do with the economy? These are some big topics, but it's very important that we understand what exactly does this AI mean for us in the future.
