Let It Happen/ Sad Girl Discourse Podcast

Hi everyone, this is Tommy Turner and today I have a little podcast that I'd like to discuss like a few different things about sad girl discourse. So I hope you're all enjoying your day, I mean whoever is watching this podcast obviously, but today I decided to come on and talk about sad girl discourse and I'm going to go into a discussion on mental health also. Throughout this podcast that I'm going to be talking you guys through, I'm going to mention a song that has a deeper meaning that you would think and also mention a question I thought of previous to this podcast that I'm looking to find an answer for. The question I have is how has social media affected mental health? So the people that have been mostly affected by social media have been, you know, mostly children and people born around the 2000s time and basically any time after that from 2000 and up, but yeah more and more people each day. They all contribute to the development of certain social media platforms by just downloading the app or whatever app they choose, but almost everyone that I know has social media and like obviously I tend to know a decent amount of people, I'm in college so I met a lot of people. It's usually around the middle school age that I would say that most kids actually get social media and it usually starts to occur when somebody has a friend that they have their parents allow them to download a social media app and then everyone hears about it and then they decide to ask their parents to get it themselves too. And ever since their parents said yes, I mean there's really no going back. Once you get social media you're just hooked in. It's kind of an addicting thing, but the main reason why social media is so popular is because you can basically see everything that anyone is doing, like literally at any time. So the concept of social media is a little bit weird just knowing that you can communicate anything to anyone literally whenever you want just to figure out something very small about them or what they're doing. But yeah, the reason it's used so much is because it's also just very convenient just because everything is so easy. Such as Instagram and Snapchat, for Snapchat if you want to ask a friend what he or she is wearing to a certain occasion that you're also going to, it's basically just as easy as sending a picture of their outfit to you and you can basically just pick your outfit based on the structure of their outfit. And for apps like Instagram and TikTok, you can see how people are doing in their lives and how they look without them really knowing that you're checking in on them. If you want to see what one of your old friends look like now, you can just search their name up on Instagram and just take a peek at their profile. On the flip side of all the social media stuff, a lot of people with Snapchat and Instagram specifically, I have noticed because I've been a victim myself is comparing oneself to other people. The problem with this is that there's just so much to see out there and there's always something new coming up that will always give you a thought in the back of your head. For example, a lot of girls I know will see a really pretty girl on TikTok and say something like, oh my god, she's so perfect, I wish I could look like that. Or something along the lines of that. To me, I see that as kind of a problem because, I mean, there's no problem with complimenting other people, but it's a problem that most girls wish that they look like other people and same thing goes for guys too. The point of all this is to say that you should learn to be your true self and live to your full potential and have full confidence at all times and not be held back by fear. So now I'm going to talk about a song I would like to add into this podcast and give a little description of. This song is called Let It Happen by Tim & Paula and it's fairly new, it's not too old, but I think it describes basically everything I'm trying to get to the audience. The artist, in the song Let It Happen, the artist mostly talks about kind of like all this noise, it's in quotes from the song, that is constantly running around him and how he's always hearing this noise, but nothing is as loud as the voice that's saying let it happen, constantly circling through his brain. So that was the clip from my song and to me that, in my case at least, would be referring to kind of like the self-judgment of oneself and voices in his head telling him to let the life happen and stop trying to always just run around, in quotes, run around and cover my shadow. So yeah, so basically for me, I mean this song basically just hit the nail right in the head because it's basically connecting to my project of mental health and judgment of oneself through social media and basically just trying to put on a fake version of oneself to match what others are like. So I mean, yeah, for me personally, I was just literally just walking, I was actually walking to my English class, which I'm doing this project for, and I was listening to my I had a playlist, shuffle playlist on and a couple songs by Tim and Paola came on. So I figured, you know what, let's look around and try to connect one of these songs to English. So I listened to this full song and I figured, you know, this song, Let It Happen, kind of connected to my topic basically perfectly. So yeah, I mean, the song just encourages listeners to basically just surrender to the unknown and allow life to just basically just happen. And now I'm basically just going to give you a clip from a song that, you know, the artist basically just says that he's been ready to just allow life to happen. And he's basically just saying like talking about like, if my mother finds out, like, tell her I'm sorry, because he's been ready to, you know, just allow life to happen and take the rest he needs to.
