The speaker discusses how some churches and individuals try to avoid offending others by not strictly following scripture. However, Jesus warns in Matthew 6:23 that one cannot serve both God and wealth. This raises the question of who the church and family are truly serving. Jesus' message connects to Exodus 20:3, where God emphasizes the importance of worshipping Him alone and not taking His name in vain. These teachings are directed towards believers, not non-believers. The speaker emphasizes the role of the church in leading others to God by being a positive influence in the world. As churches and individuals try not to offend those who do not want to comply with the Scripture so that they can draw larger crowds and get larger offerings, we hear Jesus in Matthew 623 say, You cannot serve God and riches. You cannot serve two masters, for either you will hate the one and love the other, or else you will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. As we look at the modern-day church and family, the question that begs to be asked is, Who are we serving? Jesus' message here takes us back to Exodus 20 and 3, as God says, You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourselves a carved image, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. In both places, he is speaking to his followers, not unbelievers. You see, he never told non-believers to go to church, but the church to go and lead them to him by being salt and light in a dark, thirsty world.
