The host welcomes listeners to Believe Together, a production by the churches in Kingcham Saltford. They mention that Burns Night is celebrated on January 25th and ask a quiz question about the traditional greeting during Burns Night meals. They also talk about the connection between Canada and Scotland and play a song called "History Makers". They share a story from the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer about a miraculous healing. They discuss the importance of prayer and play a song called "The Lord's Prayer". They ask another quiz question about the number of Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust. They then share a testimonial from a woman named Marilyn who talks about finding strength and courage through her faith in Jesus. They end with a song called "Thank You Lord". Welcome to Believe Together, the churches together in Kingcham Saltford production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. Well, some of you may know, particularly if you come from Scotland or are Scottish, that the 25th of January is Burns Night. Now, I confess I don't really know much about it. I don't celebrate it. But when the life and poetry of Robbie Burns is celebrated on Burns Night, well, there's a question I want to ask you about that. So this is the first question for this week's Just For Fun quiz. Question one. When you celebrate Burns Night, what is the traditional greeting at their meals? Is it A. Oike Va? Sorry about mispronunciations, folks. If you're Scottish, you'll know what it would be. So A. Oike Va? Or is it B. Slandu Va? You get that one? I'll tell you what they mean later. Or C. Is it Dioc Undoris? And I can't roll my R's either. Sorry. So that's, is it Oike Va? Or Slandu Va? Or Dioc Undoris? The most common sort of greeting that people give on Burns Night. Hmm. Interesting. Incidentally, those of you who listened in last week with our theme of Canada may realise there is a small link here between Canada and Scotland because so many of the Canadians actually trace back their roots to Scotland. There's a very large Scottish community in Canada who celebrate with pipe conventions and tossing the caber and Highland Games and that sort of thing. Wow. Good for them. I'm glad they can really enjoy that heritage. But we have a bit of music now which is neither Canadian nor Scottish. This is History Makers from Delirious. Is it true today That when people cry Cloudless skies will break Kings and queens will shine Yes, it's true I'm amazing I'm living for you Is it true today That when people Will see dead men rise And the blind celebrate Yes, it's true I'm amazing I'm living for you I'm gonna be A history maker in this land I'm gonna be A speaker of truth to the common I'm gonna stand I'm gonna run Into your arms Into your arms Well, it's true today That when people stay With the father gone And the truth in hand We'll see miracles We'll see angels We'll see broken hearts Making history Yes, it's true I'm amazing I'm living for you I'm gonna be A history maker in this land I'm gonna be A speaker of truth to the common I'm gonna stand I'm gonna run I'm gonna run Into your arms Into your arms I'm gonna be A history maker in this land I'm gonna be A speaker of truth to the common I'm gonna stand I'm gonna run Into your arms Into your arms Into your arms Into your arms Into your arms Delirious for history makers Now, you may well have noticed That one of the main themes of that song Was prayer Now, we've talked before About the eternal wall of answered prayer Which is to be built in the Midlands And one of the prayers Posted recently by a woman Number 24,884 to be precise Is going to be read by Jenny now Okay My firstborn son was about one month old I was breastfeeding him with a shawl For privacy in a coffee shop He stopped feeding And I assumed he fell asleep I moved the shawl to see his face And blood was coming out of his nose And he seemed asleep I was so scared and screamed out My friend was with me and calmed me The staff ran over It turned out a paramedic was in the coffee shop My friends arranged an ambulance I was in shock There was also one off-duty police person Who also helped Their fast action, I'm sure, helped so much He was put in an incubator and put to sleep He had experienced a pulmonary hemorrhage Which was bleeding in his lungs Our church friends, family, pastor Prayed and visited On day two or three I was listening to worship music In the hospital parents room And sensed peace Peace if this was all the time we'd have He started to respond and heal very quickly The doctors were surprised by his quick improvement We couldn't believe it But by day six we were home and discharged There was no sign of effects physically That he had ever experienced that They investigated and followed up regularly For four years We never find a cause or lasting effects Today is a month off his 13th birthday Fit and healthy, hardly ever getting ill Prayer works, God is always with us Thank you Jenny for reading that prayer From the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer Now, there are this week's verse for the week From the Leprosy Mission In nothing be anxious But in everything By prayer and petition With thanksgiving Let your requests be made known to God That comes from the New Testament of the Bible Philippians chapter 4 verse 6 Now continuing to think about prayer Here's a song, I don't think I've heard it before It's the Lord's Prayer It's yours It's by Matt Mayer I wonder if you've heard it before Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Forgive us this day our daily bread Forgive us, forgive us As we forgive the ones who sin Forgive us, forgive us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil Let your kingdom come Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Give us this day our daily bread Forgive us, forgive us As we forgive the ones who sin Forgive us, forgive us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil Let your kingdom come It's yours, it's yours All yours, all yours The kingdom, the power, the glory are yours It's yours, it's yours All yours, all yours Forever and ever The kingdom is yours It's yours, it's yours All yours, all yours The kingdom, the power, the glory are yours It's yours, it's yours All yours, all yours Forever and ever The kingdom is yours Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Father let your kingdom come Father let your will be done On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart On earth as in heaven Right here in my heart Thank you Matt and Maya for that Now here's a little introduction to our next quiz question Number 2 I wonder if you know that the 27th of January is Holocaust Memorial Day It's not a lovely subject is it? But it seems important for us all not to forget the Holocaust when the government of Nazi Germany persecuted in all sorts of ways so many people Many observances fall on the 27th of January because it's the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945 17 million people from various groups were murdered How many of this 17 million do you think were Jewish? This is the quiz question 6 million, 10 million or 14 million? 6 million, 10 million or 14 million Jewish people murdered Thank you Jenny Now if you're a local person who's lived in the Keynesham area for some years then you'll probably know a lady called Marilyn and her son Stephen who have been living in the area for many years Now a few days ago Marilyn asked if she could share something with our radio community So we went round and we were very pleased to record her and this is what she's got to say Going through trials and tribulations we all go through them at times but I found that being not well and struggling through my life at my age now at 87 it hasn't been easy at times but I know I have been given strength by the Lord Jesus because when I'm feeling weak and can't do things I look to him and I know the Lord is always with me and he knows how I'm feeling so he gives me that strength and courage to carry on and without him I do not know where I would be but the Lord is gracious and he knows all how we are in our lives I've proved it time and time and when we are ill or we can't do things just look to him and he will give us that courage to carry on in our lives and that peace that passes all understanding is our Lord Jesus who we love very much, or I do I'm so grateful for how he is with me how he's brought me through not only through me but with Stephen as well, my son Stephen is full of the Lord although he's special needs but he's full of the Lord Jesus and everybody says how happy Stephen is and I know it's the Lord what gives him that understanding and how he is I just thank the Lord for all he's done in my life The Bible says it's a good thing to give thanks to the Lord Amen I come before you today There's just one thing that I want to say Thank you Lord Thank you Lord For all you've given to me For all the blessings that I cannot see Thank you Lord Thank you Lord With a grateful heart With a song of praise With an outstretched arm I will bless your name And thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord For all you've done in my life You took my darkness and gave me your light Thank you Lord Thank you Lord You took my sin and my shame You took my sickness and healed all my pain Thank you Lord Thank you Lord With a grateful heart With a song of praise With an outstretched arm I will bless your name And thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord Thank you Lord Yes we do For all you've done For all you're doing Thank you, thank you, thank you Yes we do Thank you Lord Thank you Lord With a grateful heart With a song of praise With an outstretched arm I will bless your name Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you, thank you Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord Thank you Lord I just want to thank you Lord Thank you Lord Oh thank you Lord That was Thank you Lord by Don Mohan Yes all about thanking God and praising Him at all times in everything You know that's something that God tells us to do in the New Testament of the Bible It reminds me of a book I read 50 years ago called Prison to Praise by Merlin Carruthers I recommend it to anybody because being thankful and praising God in all things can be so transforming in our lives and make us so much stronger Hey you, have you ever felt like listening to our sister program on a Friday evening to kickstart your weekend early? Why don't you listen to it on Songs of Praise The winners were Kudos Gospel Choir but of course all the songs are absolutely fantastic Now let's look around and see what's happening in our local home area Right, Messy Breakfast at Keynsham Baptist Church Sunday 28th January, 9.30 in the morning Food, quizzes, crafts, stories, singing All welcome, especially families Now I wonder if you know that little theatre in St Michael's Place, Bath Well, getting back to that quiz question we had just now about the Holocaust This is to do with the Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration in Bath and North East Somerset The Baines Faith Foundation is working with the little theatre to organise 2024 commemorations There's something in the little theatre on Sunday 28th January from 2 to 5pm It says, we're hosting a film showing of My Nazi Legacy Councillor Karen Walker, Vice Chairwoman of Baines Council will attend Our patron Sarah Bevan, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, will say a few words beforehand Normal little theatre ticket prices apply So if you go to Nathan Hartley, Director of the Baines Faith Foundation you may be able to find out more about that or contact the little theatre in Bath direct The next Churches Together 5th Sunday service will be held on Sunday 28th January at St Francis Church, Warwick Road, Keynsham at 6pm Churches Together 5th Sunday services embrace the different traditions of the local churches and this time there'll be a wonderful opportunity to experience a very traditional and beautiful service Now something else we've mentioned before but it's coming up soon You're warmly invited to attend the Christian Aid quiz to be held at St Dunstan's Church Hall, Keynsham on Saturday 3rd February at 7pm when there'll be a raffle with a cash prize Tea, coffee, nibbles will be provided Come individually or as a team and donations while you're there to Christian Aid are very welcome Something else that will suddenly come up quickly is the Abseil event Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April Plans are coming along nicely for this joint community event raising funds for both Mencap and St John's Church If you would like to find out more about the event and how you can register as a participant so that you can effectively fall off backwards from the top of the church tower then contact Clare at Mencap The details for how to contact her will be in our Facebook page We're going to play a song now, we've played it before called The Beautiful Garden of Prayer Now I was thinking, I know at least one person called Mary who has a birthday coming up this week so I thought, well never mind if you have a birthday this week or even if your name's Mary well, how about all the Marys who are listening whether it's your birthday or not this is specially for you The Beautiful Garden of Prayer Here sung by Abigail Miller There's a garden where Jesus is waiting There's a place that is wonderfully fair For it glows with the light of His presence There's a beautiful garden of prayer Oh, the beautiful garden, the garden of prayer Oh, the beautiful garden of prayer There my Savior awaits And we open our lips to the beautiful garden of prayer The Beautiful Garden of Prayer There's a garden where Jesus is waiting And I go with my burden and care Just to learn from His lips worthy comfort In the beautiful garden of prayer The Beautiful Garden of Prayer There's a garden where Jesus is waiting And He bids you to come meet Him there Just to bow and receive a new blessing In the beautiful garden of prayer Oh, the beautiful garden, the garden of prayer Oh, the beautiful garden of prayer There my Savior awaits And we open our lips to the beautiful garden of prayer Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Oh, the beautiful garden of prayer Now the 28th of January is World Leprosy Day I'm sure most of you listening now will have heard about Jesus healing people with leprosy It tells us in the Bible all about it And of course those were miracles He did He didn't have any medicines or anything to hand Of course it's wonderful that today so many people can be healed of leprosy Because we have wonderful medicines to use, don't we? Now leprosy is also known as Hansen's disease It's a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae The disease affects the skin, the peripheral nerves Mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract and the eyes Leprosy is known to occur at all ages Ranging from early childhood to old age Of course many organisations have been working around the world To rid the world of leprosy for very many years There are nowhere near as many cases diagnosed worldwide now Than there used to be so that's good But here comes the next quiz question Quiz question number three So how many new cases of leprosy do you think are now diagnosed each year? 50,000, 100,000 or 200,000? I wonder what you think 50,000, 100,000 or 200,000? Now you can get lots of information from various leprosy organisations But I do read verses that come from the diary of the Leprosy Mission So I'm just going to mention leprosymission.org.uk You can find out all about leprosy there And what that particular organisation does to combat it and help people And they do have a lovely shop Lots of gorgeous things you can buy from their online shop You're listening to Believe Together The church is together in Caterham and Salford Production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online Right, now it's time for us to bring you some news headlines from around the world Please remember if you want any more details about any of these Just go and look them up on something like Google Right, in interview England Netballer says Christian faith defines her Give prayer a go, it's like riding a bike says archdiocese Christian MP facing further legal battle despite not guilty verdict over sharing a bible verse Dramatic decline in number of religious programmes shown on TV Royal author claims Prince William could be first in 500 years to separate monarchy from CFE Andrew Lloyd Webber sought help of priest to deal with ghost Elon Musk agrees the west is screwed without Christianity And now here's that beautiful song I Speak Jesus Sung by Kierby Lyons and Darlene Sheck I speak Jesus I just want to speak the name of Jesus Over every heart and every mind Cause I know there is peace within your presence I speak Jesus I just want to speak the name of Jesus Till every dark deception starts to break Cause everywhere is hope and there is freedom I speak Jesus Cause your name is power, your name is healing Your name is mine Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows Your name is mine I just want to speak the name of Jesus Over fear and all anxiety To every soul held captive by depression I speak Jesus Your name is power, your name is healing Your name is mine Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows Your name is mine Shout Jesus from the mountains, Jesus in the streets Jesus in the darkness over every enemy Jesus for my family, I speak the holy name Jesus Shout Jesus from the mountains, Jesus in the streets Jesus in the darkness over every enemy Jesus for my family, I speak the holy name Jesus Shout Jesus from the mountains, Jesus in the streets Jesus in the darkness over every enemy Jesus for my family, I speak the holy name Jesus Your name is power, your name is healing Your name is mine Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows The light of your fire Your name is power, your name is healing Your name is mine Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows The light of your fire I just wanna speak the name of Jesus Over every heart and every mind Cause I know there is peace within his presence I speak Jesus And now for the Thought of the Week for the Kingsham Talking Newspaper Hello, Trevor Stubbs here again How are we faring in gloomy January? I hope after the first three of my Talking Newspaper talks you can see glimmers of joy in a dull post-Christmas time of year We're all longing for the sun and the first snowdrop to appear But the church's calendar continues with another sign of wonder The third of the three wonders of the Epiphany season is Jesus' turning water into wine at the marriage at Cana The story is told in only one of the four Gospels, John and it occurs right at the beginning of Jesus' ministry In many ways it launches it He is there as a guest with his mother and first Galilean disciples his friends No one is thinking of him doing anything other than just joining in with the celebrations But then it all changes This simple wedding feast is the first demonstration manifestation of Jesus' divine power the first hint of him being who he is the Son of God His mother, of course, knew She always knew She knew it was only a matter of time And it is she who nudges him into action He protests Woman, what is that to do with you and me? My time has not yet come But it had, and Mary knew, and he knew it She doesn't argue, but just says to the servant Do what he tells you to do We should never forget the part Mary played in God's plan for the world And so a miracle of power is performed But John doesn't call it a miracle He calls it a sign Jesus did this, he writes the first of his signs in Cana of Galilee and revealed his glory Turning water into wine was more than a sign of power It was a sign of care and love The motivation at this juncture was to help a family out of an embarrassing situation But more than that, it was a sign of abundance Six stone water jars means gallons and gallons Enough for many feasts Power, love and generous abundance are the hallmark of God's blessing to humanity through Christ God's glory is not just about power It's also about love and generosity Wow, awesome, as our young people might say Yes, awesome, truly awesome So when we feel weak and things seem to pile in on us Let us remember God's awesome power In John's next chapter he writes the famous verse For God so loved the world that he gave his only son so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life God loved us so much that he gave Jesus so that if we turn to him we will never be overwhelmed by the power of darkness but have true life now and forever Later, John recalls Jesus saying again I came that whoever comes to me may have life and have it abundantly Power, love and generous abundance With Christ we have it all Awesome It's been a privilege to share with you this last month May God bless the months to come But whatever 2024 may bring Remember that God is with you and holds you in his hand From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea Creation's revealing your majesty From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring Every creature's unique in the song that it sings All-exclaiming, indescribable, uncontainable You place the stars in the sky and you know they're my name You are amazing God All-powerful, untamable All strength we fall to our knees and we hold it for faith That you are amazing God You show every lightning bolt where it should go Or sing heavenly storehouses laden with snow Imagine the sun and get lost in its light Yet you'll see that to bring us the fruits of life No one can stop us Indescribable, uncontainable You place the stars in the sky and you know they're my name You are amazing God All-powerful, untamable All strength we fall to our knees and we hold it for faith That you are amazing God You are amazing God You are amazing God Indescribable, uncontainable You place the stars in the sky and you know they're my name You are amazing God All-powerful, untamable All strength we fall to our knees and we hold it for faith That you are amazing God You are indescribable, uncontainable You place the stars in the sky and you know they're my name You are amazing God Incomparable, untamable You be the depth of my heart and you love me the same You are amazing God You are amazing God You are amazing God Well, thank you Trevor for your thoughts for the week for January and for choosing Indescribable, sung there by Laura Story. The Burns Night Meals, what is their traditional greeting? Was it Oike Va? That means good night. Was it Slanju Va? That means good health. Or was it Diog Un Doris? That means one last drink or one for the road. Well, of course, it's Slanju Va. Good health. Then we come down to number two. How many of the 17 million people murdered in the Holocaust do you think were Jewish? Was it 6 million, 10 million or 14 million? Well, it was 6 million, but that is still obviously terrible. Then quiz question number three about leprosy. How many new cases of leprosy do you think are now diagnosed each year? 50,000, 100,000 or 200,000? The answer is 200,000. Far too many. Now we have a very special What's On. It will soon be the fourth birthday of our local 24-7 radio station, KTCR FM, and with it the fourth birthday of this very show, Believe Together, produced at the moment by ourselves, Peter and Jenny Morgan, on behalf of Churches Together in Keynsham and Salford. Would you like to celebrate this upcoming birthday with us? Well, we're pleased to say that Keynsham Eden Church, Balmoral Road, Keynsham, have invited us to go along to their cafe church on Sunday 4th February from 5pm to approximately 6.30pm to share in a time of celebration. The church meeting room will be laid out with tables and chairs. There will be free drinks and nibbles available throughout the evening from the coffee bar at the back of the room. And of course, you're welcome to bring along your own packed tea if you need to. There will be optional activities available both for adults and children at cafe churches for all ages. And then we, Peter and Jenny, will be interviewed in the coffee with pasta slot where we'll share a lot more about Believe Together, what it's all about, what use you could make of it, and how you might well be able to contribute things to it. We will of course also mention how it is just a small part of KTCR FM and also about our sister show, The Lighter Show. So, if you're able to, why not come along and join us on that evening, Sunday 4th February from 5pm. Go on, you know you want to, and to see some of the faces behind Believe Together. As we've no idea how many might come along, and we want to ensure there are enough tables and chairs put out, it might be helpful if you could let us know if you hope to come along. But if you forget to do so, just come anyway. We really look forward to seeing those of you who can make it. Now, if you're unable to come along in person on the 4th of February, then providing technology works, you can watch the coffee with pasta slot afterwards, once it has been posted on the Elim Church website. That's www.cainshameelim.com, where you go to the services tab and then the live stream page. Please feel free to contact us at Believe Together for more information about how to do this. So, our time this week is almost gone. It just remains for us to say goodbye to you, and thank you for joining in this week, and to play out with a blessing, which this week is musical, and has been requested for Dan, for his birthday. So, happy birthday Dan, and goodbye! Happy birthday Dan, goodbye! Here is Graham Kendrick with The Peace. Now and always May the Lord bless you May the Lord keep you And may God's face shine upon you Always And give you peace And give you peace Now may the peace of the Lord be with you, be with you Now may the peace of the Lord be with you, be with you Now and always May the Lord bless you May the Lord keep you And may God's face shine upon you Always May the Lord bless you May the Lord keep you And may God's face shine upon you Always And give you peace And may God's face shine upon you Always And give you peace And give you peace And give you peace
