Man charged with murder after house fire in Huddersfield. Yorkshire County Cricket Club faces scrutiny over racism allegations. Arsenal must come from behind in Champions League match. London Marathon increases prize money for wheelchair races. England makes changes for fourth test with India. Good afternoon, it's 3 o'clock, I'm Lara Gohan and this is Leeds Tax Radio News. Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer, has denied threatening Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle at Wednesday's debate on a ceasefire in Gaza. However, reports say Sir Hoyle was told Labour may not support him in the next election if he failed to put their motive to vote. I simply urged him to ensure that we have the broadest possible debate so that actually the most important thing, which is what do we do about the awful situation in Gaza, could be properly discussed by MPs with a number of options in front of them. That's the right thing to do. Leeds City Council met yesterday to discuss the annual budget for 2024-2025. Many cuts were made and council leader, Councillor James Lewis, placed the blame on the Conservative government. Lewis calls for an election and change in leadership. Council, we all hope this is the last budget we must set under the rule of a Conservative government for a very long time. This position is unsustainable and we all need a general election now, with a new government, with new ideas, to come and tackle the issues that are serious to us as a world. A community park has opened in Hyde Park, replacing what once was Royal Park School. Local residents have access to the community gardens with a range of amenities. Hyde Park resident, Sam Hurley, talks on the new Royal Park. It's a really good idea to reuse the land that was obviously originally a school that had been knocked down. It's obviously a benefit. The council are actually sticking to their word since they were talking, I think it was around about four years ago, they were speaking about this actually happening, so it's nice to see it happening. Paddle tennis, a sport that combines tennis and squash, has now found a home in Leeds. We Are Paddle Ltd have begun plans to convert the roundhouse in Leeds into courts suitable for paddle tennis. Historic England have said it's an interesting new use for the building and it will have minimal physical impact on the building. Joseph Jacklin has more. The roundhouse is set to be transformed to a paddle tennis centre as UK Paddle Club Ltd look to build ten courts on the site. There was some reservation at the council due to possible jeopardisation of housing opportunities, but it was assured that there was ample space elsewhere. LGBT plus charities from across Yorkshire are set to attend the annual marketplace day. The event aims to make a safe space for the community. Lara Gohan has more. This Saturday, Kirkstall Market is set to host the LGBT plus history marketplace day. The event will be full of charities offering support and spreading awareness. These charities out together have organised the event for the fourth year in a row. A man has been charged with murder after a fatal house fire in Huddersfield. Martin Kramowski, 42, appeared at Bradford Magistrates today. Officers are continuing to appeal for friends and family of the man who died to come forward. That's the news, now here's Kate Page with the sport. There's an apology from the chairman of Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He should not have experienced what he experienced. That's Colin Graves speaking in front of MPs this week. Yorkshire County Cricket Club has faced scrutiny after Azeem Rafiq accused them of racism in 2020. Cricket correspondent for BBC Radio Leeds, Jonathan Doge... Yes, I think they've absolutely, definitely made progress. You know, they've satisfied all the criteria for... The ECB's improvement plan looks at diversifying the sport on many levels, from gender, race, religion and socio-economic background. Rohan Nemi plays for Leeds Bradford MCCU. In the UK, actually, there's a lot being done to reduce discrimination. Despite the hardship faced by the club this recent season, Jonathan Doge says... I think, you know, the attitude at the moment is generally very positive. The future is looking bright as Yorkshire Cricket Club look ahead to the upcoming season. New appointment of chairman Colin Graves brings hope to the players and fans if he can provide a more stable season. I am very optimistic about the future. Now looking at football. Arsenal have to come from behind in their Champions League last-16 tie after their 1-0 first-leg defeat to FC Porto. Wenderson Galleon's 94th-minute goal secured the host victory in Portugal. Boss Mikel Arteta is still confident that his team have it in the bag to go through. We will learn from it. Now it's clear. It's half-time. You want to be in quarter-finals. You have to beat your opponent. It's clear. And that will be the purpose and the plan with all our supporters together to do it. This year's London Marathon will have an increased prize money for winners of the wheelchair races, matching the sums of able-bodied competitors will get for the first time. The four successful athletes will each earn over £43,000, with the race taking place on 21st April. Finally, England have made two changes for tomorrow's fourth test with India as they look to get back into the series. Ollie Robinson replaces fellow paceman Mark Wood and Shahab Bashir comes in for Raheem Ahmed. It means three tests in a row for the 41-year-old Jimmy Anderson, and captain Ben Stokes says the veteran is still evolving. He's also introduced new ways of operating. We've seen him commit to bobbin bounces. We've seen him bowl round the wicket to right-handers. So, yeah, I think, I mean, even saying approaching 700 test wickets as a fast bowler is incredible. It's seven minutes past three. I'm Laura Gowen. More news in half an hour.
