In this podcast episode, the speaker discusses the ongoing debate between dogs and cats. Dogs are considered loyal and friendly, often helping their owners and others. They are social animals and enjoy meeting new people and dogs. However, owning a dog requires a lot of time and money. On the other hand, cats are loyal only when shown loyalty. They are less active and sleep a lot. Cats require less attention, food, and toys, saving money. They can also hunt mice and have a higher chance of survival if they run away. The speaker suggests that if you want a companion that spends a lot of time with you and have the resources, get a dog. But if you don't have much time or money, a cat can be a good choice. Different breeds of cats and dogs serve different purposes. For many centuries, people have been arguing between the dog vs. cat debate, but which one's better? Hi, my name is Mortimer. I'm a retired zoologist, so I decided to make a podcast about cats. In this episode, I brought to you what many believe to be a very subjective point of view, dogs vs. cats. Here, you will learn about the pros and cons of our favorite household pets, dogs and cats. But first, let's start with dogs. Dogs are considered man's best friend, as they are loyal and friendly. Dogs who are considered the loyal animal seem to do anything they can to help their owners, and sometimes others. Most dogs are friendly and love meeting new people and new dogs. The existence of dog parks and little or not a cat parks prove that dogs are more social than them. Some dogs can be used for work too, like how the German Shepherd was bred to herd sheeps to places. Australian Shepherds or Aussies, Canans, Berger Batards, or any type of colony can also herd sheep. The most common type of service animal is a dog sheep because of their intelligence and loyalty. Another good thing about dogs is picking up after them is easier. Some downsides of dogs though is that they require a lot of your time and money. Some money and time costing activities are walking dogs, grooming dogs, washing dogs, or buying them toys, which can cost a large fraction of your time and money. Dogs can cost $700 to $2700 more than cats to adopt as well. And for some people, dogs can be a little too much and get in your way when working or doing daily activities. Shifting to cats, they, on the other hand, are only loyal to you when you show loyalty to them. A lot of cats are not the friendliest and may scratch or bite you if you pet them too much. They are also less active than dogs and sleep a lot. Cats actually sleep 12-16 hours a day. That means, on the low end, your cat probably sleeps half of their life. Though, cats don't require any of your attention and only need water, shelter, and food to be happy as they are most solitary. And they need less food and toys. Cats also groom themselves for free, which can add up to a lot of money saved. Because of this, cats cost $1200 per year while dogs cost $4500 per year. Cats can also hunt any mice if they are only semi-domesticated and they show their hunting instincts. And if your cat runs away, it has a higher chance of survival by themselves for the same reason. Really, the thing to remember is that if you want a companion that spends a lot of time with you and you have the money for, get a dog. But, if you don't have the time or money for the luxury of a dog or just before a woman is pet, get a cat. Cats and dogs also have different breeds that do different things. And, these animals do have alternate purposes too. Like, if you need a service animal, get a dog. But, if you have pests running around your house, get a cat or an exterminator.
