The speaker discusses the importance of finding one's motivation and knowing their ideal destination. They mention a personal example of their spouse leaving their job after many years due to dissatisfaction. The speaker helps their spouse realize that it's not the job they hate, but the environment they were in. The spouse finds a new job that aligns with their passion and feels more motivated. The speaker emphasizes the need to continuously reassess and reconnect with one's motivators. Now this will feel a little bit redundant the motivator within motivation. I go back to the motivator Specific to the person. What's that ideal destination? Again that whiteboard coaching activity in the overview and certainly in the question section will give you some insight how to do that When somebody knows where they want to go They can get in the front seat of the car with you or you can get in the front seat of their car and travel with them Here's the funny thing Especially since the pandemic people have lost sight of where they want to go Let me give you just a quick tidbit my wife Left her organization after 26 years. She's a primary care physician a pediatrician and She never thought she would leave and it's really kind of Unusual after 26 years for somebody to leave their job and basically start their practice over It really is very very unusual quite frankly, it's very risky her old employer was just certainly having problems and it got very Toxic and you know, matter of fact her whole clinic every doctor ended up leaving to kind of illustrate the point And I said, well what you know What's the challenge and she said something to me one day and I want you to really hear this First of all, you never coach your spouse. It's scary But she said I hate my job I Said really she was I hate it, which is a spouse puts a lot of pressure You know, we're working towards retirement You know, we just got done paying for our kids to go through college and we're you know, that's stressed me out I'm like, what do you mean? He hates your job. What are you gonna do? I don't know and it's what let me ask you a couple questions. Let me just come back I'm gonna ask you coaching questions. I know I shouldn't do this What do you like Forget where you work, what do you like she goes? Well, I love kids. Obviously I said really she was Of course I do and I was playing dumb and after about five minutes She couldn't stop talking about how much she loved her patients loved her kids and I smiled and she was what are you smiling at? I go You don't hate your job. You hate where you're doing your job. She was well, that's what I said This is why you don't coach your spouse And I said, well maybe find a new place now, this is not a criticism My wife and I are the exact opposite when it comes to change I Love change, you know people say oh, I really love change. No, I really love it one It's great for a business to it allows us to build products three. It allows us to do different things I love it. My wife's more of a creature of habit so She started to go out and look and she ended up joining an organization That is basically owned and run by the Medical College of Wisconsin where she went to school her first meeting It was like old home week a Lot of the directors of the hospital and the organization were her ex-classmates She's got a different pickup in her step So what she had to do she didn't Not have a motivator. She had to reconnect with her motivator Everybody needs to do that. And by the way motivation changes motivators change That's why we as coaches have to keep asking questions in fueling people's minds
