Welcome to Word of Mouth Podcast with Nate and Shelby. We are back at it again. And we got some juicy stuff to talk about again. I think we're going to stay until the Holy Spirit releases us. We're going to stay talking about just those religious things that has kept us oppressed and in bondage for a very long time. And, of course, y'all know we're going to be honest. We're going to be open. We're going to be transparent. We're going to be real. We're going to be convicted. I already was. Speak for yourself over there. However, why not convey and speak about it on a platform like this where it can not only free us but free other people too. That's what I hope. Yes, yes, I think it's important. So this segment is… Don't label it. Can't really label it. Just let it flow. Yeah, we're just going to stay in that vein of just dispelling religion and building more relationship. One of the things that we could talk about is denominations. Denominations. What are they all about, Nate? Usually you get to ask me the question. I got it all out first. You did. That was good. That was good. So denominations. I had to do some study on this a while ago, and the word denomination in the Greek means dino. Dino means to divide. Sugar. Yeah, and so I don't think a lot of people know that denominations was put in place to divide us. As a true body of Christ, we were divided by certain rules, regulations, man-made… Protocols. Yes. Procedures. Boom. Policies. All of the above. And let's touch on that. Let's touch on that. Let's open up the can. Pandora's box. Yeah, and allow some stuff to really, really just surface. I saw quite a few denominations growing up. Me growing up in the church, I grew up in a Baptist church. It's called Kojic. C-O-G-I-C. Church of God and Christ. Oh, okay. She looked at me like, what? What the? What language is that? Are you speaking in tongues over there? Yes, yes. I saw Presbyterian. Lutheran. Methodist. Yes. Pentecostal? Definitely. And, I mean, it's a lot of different denominations out there. We may be missing probably a million. Yeah, yeah. Can't list them all. I saw quite a bit, and they do have certain rules. And I guess from a position standpoint, when I started the church that I pastored, the first thing I told the people is, I don't believe in denomination, because we would not be divided from anyone. Shouldn't be. And I had some kickback from it, because it was like, well, I'm this or I'm that. I don't really care. You're going to teach Bible. Right. You're going to teach biblical principles. And another thing that I said up front as a leader in this church was, I don't believe in membership. I think Sam's Club has membership. I had some church people look at me like, I just had some church people listen, like, what? Yes. Side eye. Yeah, I got a bunch of side eyes on that one, because as I read more and more, I didn't see where he said, go and make memberships. I think he said, go and make disciples. Ouch. So to each his own on that. We're only expressing opinion. Whatever you choose. And we're not going to love you any less if yours is different. No, not at all. I even had a big kickback from my mom. My mom was like, no, I'm a member of your church. I was like, a member of what? We can go to Sam's Club and I'll get you a picture, get you a card, and you can get on my Sam's Club. But nah, you're not a member at all. When you're a member of something, you pay dues. Yeah. I don't want to touch that. Well, you touched it, but you're just going to touch it and step away now. That's my take on denominations. I think that it has really divided us as not only a body of Christ, but as people. Absolutely. It made us look at people different. How I see denominations now is how I saw gangs in Chicago. Seriously. Yeah. Like if it was, I know in California, if it was Crips and Bloods, that's how the Methodists and the Baptists. I'm Baptist, I'm Methodist. And it's sad to say that we are hollering a denomination and we're not hollering like that for God anymore. Yeah, shouldn't we just be, I'm on the Jesus train. Right. But we're hollering whatever denomination we are. So that's a little weird for me. I have a lot to say about it, but I want to get your take on it. I agree with you. I definitely agree with you. I don't understand. I think when people teach, they teach from their own perspective, because that's what we do, right? That's who we are. We teach out of our own makeup. We teach out of our own pains, growth, whatever. And that's important because we all have a voice and we're all going to learn. We all have a place. We all have a purpose, all that stuff. But I think that if you boil it all down, doesn't it all come down to the word of God? It should. Aren't we all reading from the same Bible? I know there's different versions of the Bible. And I know some people, like, you got to be King James, or you got to, you know, NIV, or you got to. That's a real big one. No, it's the word. It's a word. It's living. Yeah, it's living. It lives every day. It will forever. It's been living. Let me say this. John 1, verse 1. Everybody knows this scripture. It is like we use it as a cliche. In the beginning was the word. The word was with God. The word was God. Now, I think what we have missed in that, if in the beginning was the word, then that word is an actual being. Jesus. He was with God. And he was God. How simple is that? I understand that, but I do think it's not understood widely. If the word is not living inside of you, then all we're doing is repeating words on a paper. It's memorizing a book. It's just like going to school, memorizing stuff for your test. That's it. If you don't use it, what's the point? Thank you. But the word imparts itself differently to each individual. Just like the Holy Spirit, it's all intermingled. Yes. And it's all the same. Absolutely. And I think we need to get off of the policies and procedures. Come on. And just focus on the word. Yes. Because no matter what version you're reading from, we're all reading from the same book. We hope now. That's true. Now, yeah, there are some that aren't even teaching the word. Right. We do hope. There's a lot of doctrines out there that are completely man-made. They're just making up their own as they go. That's right. I mean, you sent me a TikTok the other day of what? We won't say what it was, but it was a preacher talking about something that was not the word at all. I see this stuff. I have to send it to her immediately because I'm appalled. It was so far off the word. And he was really like, oh, this is the word. He was on fire for it, but it was not. The Bible says to suck on what? What? Where does it say that? I never read that, but amen, whatever your thing says. But it's sad to say that denominations have put in their own doctrine, policies, procedures, that have switched and changed some things, and now we're divided because now we're debating what the word says. Yeah, we're debating these procedures. We're debating what? Yeah. Man-made junk. One hundred percent. Yeah. One of the biggest things that denominations have divided. You ready? Let me wait. The way you're looking at me, I don't know. I might need to get under my desk. The biggest thing that denominations have divided is women. I'm right here. What are you talking about? Man, there are some. You mean they've demeaned. Yes. Yes, the denominations have cut them down. One hundred percent. The reason why I use divided is because it's divided man from woman and demeaned them to a point, certain denominations have demeaned them to a point where they're nothing. Substandard. Subhuman. Because they have their own doctrine and their own way of viewing certain things that it's sickening. It's sad. I'm not going to say all the stuff I was saying because it's sad that women aren't treated the way they are in certain denominations. Yeah. However. I think God created women, didn't he? Yes. Men will sleep. I think there's been a lot of women in the word that were pretty important. Very much so. Yeah. And kind of like you pointed out, we all came from a woman. A woman. God literally had a whole conversation through an angel talking to Mary. Mm hmm. Very important now. Yeah. Because he had to come through. OK. Yeah. I don't know. Just some stuff, it throws me off where when you add certain things because you want it to fit your criteria of however you want your stuff to go. I mean, that's what denominations are to me. It's divisive where you follow my way. Or you don't matter. That's it. I was sharing with Shelby earlier. I saw in certain denominations where you have numbers. So you have First Baptist, Second Baptist, First Calvary, Second Calvary. Yeah. It can be anything. First Church Christ, Second Church Christ. Right. Yeah. Why can't it be just one? Why don't we just. Yeah. Like I said to you earlier, I'd never thought about that. I mean, as you just said, don't we all read the same book? We should. We should, right? Don't it all say pretty much the same thing? It might say it in a little different language, a little different terminology, but it's all the same. Or is it a competition? Oh, gosh. Now I'm going to touch on something there that's going to – people are going to get heated about that one. Thank you, Holy Spirit. That could be a big one right there because I want to be more of the it person than you. So now I'm in competition with you. Well, I'm going to go out and do this. Uh-oh. I think a lot of preachers have chased the almighty dollar and watered down the word to get that almighty dollar. My, my, my. I just said that. Yes, you did. Out loud. I did. And thank you for saying that. Why? Why? Because it's the truth. And there's no way possible that we should have to sugarcoat and not talk about that. Yes, it's sad to say that money, which the Bible gives an account, the love of money, not money, the love of it is the root of all evil, all. And if we're chasing that, that becomes – and I think you just studied about this – adultery. Yeah, absolutely. That's your God. Yeah. And I'm not. There's a lot of churches that do a lot of good with their money, a lot, a lot, a lot. And the world would be in a much different place if we didn't have that. But when you change the word to influence your congregation to give you more money, I don't think that's a good thing. It's just me. It's not a good thing. Doesn't the word say do not add? Or take away. Or take away. Yes, it does. Yeah, it does. It's in the book of Hebrews. I knew you would know the address. I just say it, and you can tell me where the address is. I got you. So check this out. So back in Chicago, I was going to this church years and years ago. And I'm not going to say the pastor's name or the name of the church, but it was a church that wanted me to write over, like sign over my text. And they would endorse it. Oh. And so when they endorse it, they keep everything. But I only had to do it once a month. Tithing? No, it wasn't tithing. Oh, it wasn't tithing. Okay. Because I knew what tithing was, but I was so engulfed by, you know, I guess what was going on at that time. Me and my best friend, too, we were so engulfed by what was going on at that time. And I was wondering, like, I'm signing over all this stuff. And I was working at Foot Locker at the time. So my commission checks was pretty good. And I was signing over, and we didn't have lights. In the church. We had no heat in the church. But yet you're signing over a check a month? And I wasn't the only one. Yeah, I'll wait. Wow. Make it make sense. Dang, I'm in the wrong business. Oh, my God. This is real. Wow. This is real. Oh, my God. This is real. Wow. That is wackadoo. Holy crap, man. Yes, yes. I woke up one day, and I said, man, I refuse to do this again. So what I did at the time is because I knew the concept of tithing, I would take 10% of my earnings and buy a bunch of food. And I would take it to the homeless. And we would go under. It was off Canal Street downtown. And we would go under there, me and my best friend and his family. And we would just feed. Right. Bought a bunch of bologna and bread and juice and stuff like that. And so at that time, because I was ingrained, and if I didn't, I was told that I was being tied. Right. I was going to hell. So I had to make sure I do it. That false teaching. Yeah. I felt under pressure about it, but I felt great to do that for other people. Right. Even though it was a pressure type of thing. Right. It took me a while to realize, man, you can give this and not be under that kind of pressure. You know, to give from your heart to people. That's what you're supposed to do. And that's what you're supposed to do. Careful giver. Yes. Yeah, we talked about this. We did. So this denominational thing, it's a little rough. I will sign them over checks. That's what an S checks. Man, that's wackadoo. Learn something new every day. Yes. Yes. Wow. Us Christian folks, we have some hangups. Many. Not just hookups. We got hookups. I know. That's a different podcast. Definitely. Hookups, hangups, and something else. We've got to make three. Oh, my God. So I feel like denominations is continuing to keep us divided. I absolutely agree. What can we do? Again, peel away all the man-made junk and get down to the nitty gritty, which is the only thing that matters, which is the word. Shelby said it. Amen. It's very simple. Word of mouth podcast. Bye. See y'all. Period. Peel away. That's it. Yeah, anything that is not of the word needs to be stripped. Because that's the only thing that matters. Yeah. And do I know it? No. And I ain't going to preach it to you. I mean, I know some of it. I know it in my heart. But I can't. I can't do what Nate does. And I can't give you scripture and all that stuff. I can't give you addresses. I can't do what Nate does. But it's that simple. We got to strip away all of the extra crap we have added. We have added. And the word says, do not add. Yes. No, it's. It was a commandment. That was that Jesus said, one of the greatest commandments. I don't. I think we kind of missing that one more than anything. That's why we're so divided. The love. Yeah. The love thing. Yeah. Or you think just a little bit. Just just a skosh. Yeah. Just a pinch. Yeah. Because it wouldn't be a lot of this denominational stuff. No. But, you know, and you and I have talked about this. Off mic the labels. We really like our labels. We really like to identify with groups, things, brands, whatever. I don't know why, because it doesn't make us who we are, but we think it does. It's a sense of entitlement. Oh. That's exactly what it is. Wow. So it kind of goes into the holier than thou thing. Yes. Yes. I'm above. Yes. You're beneath. Preach. My sin is less than yours. Come on. You're on it. You are on it. Well, that's because that's what it all boils down to. Yes. Yes. That's exactly what it is. Yeah. If I can look better than. If I can look better than. Mm hmm. Doesn't mean I am, but in my own head, I think I am. Perception. Like in my Shelby voice, my crap don't think it's bad. My crap don't think it's bad. Right. You got a lot of crap that I can smell, but my crap don't smell like it. I'm like roses over here. Right. But it's exactly that. It's a sense of entitlement. When you talk about labels, positions, titles and stuff like that, people take that stuff very serious. Very, very serious. And I'm not I'm not against it because I do believe the Bible says everything is done in decency and in order. You do need a shepherd to lead a sheep. I mean, David was a great show. You have to have leaders. That's what men are supposed to be. Mm hmm. Come on. But without a shepherd, the sheep will walk around. And walk in their own stuff. Oh, and they'll fall off the cliff and they'll walk right into the lion's den and all that stuff. Because they're one track and that's all they see. And here's the good part. Oh, this is going to sound real good. Amen. There are shepherds. There are shepherds that are walking behind the sheep. So they stepping in the same. They're letting the sheep lead. And they scattered. They falling off the cliff. The blind lead the blind. Guess where they going? In the ditch. All fallen. The blind cannot lead the blind. Yeah. Denominations. We got to kill this crap, man, and really be there for one of the unified body of Christ. Yes, live it. Peel away all the labels. You use the word peel. I love. I love how you say that, because we do know that there are layers. That's why I have to be pure. I like the way you put that, because don't think that you don't have layers. That's got to be peeled off. Oh, yeah. It ain't just no boom. They go away. Right? Yeah. I'm a living witness of that. Not a boom. Yeah, I agree. And it starts with us. It starts with us. It starts with us. I'm against religion. Yeah, me too. Relationship is what it's about. Yes. That's where it's at. I'm an advocate for relationships. I think that we build more relationships when we are able to relate with each other. And we cannot relate with one another if we are so entitled, and we are so puffed up, and pride stands before us to where we think we're holier than anybody else in the world. You can't build a relationship like that. No, but the most important relationship is the one you have with God. Amen. And that's where it needs to start. Yeah. And if you don't have that one, please, please, please, please start that relationship with God. Yeah, and it's real simple. Fall in love with Him. Just ask Him to come into your heart. Just say, show me who you are. Yes. I'm ready. It's really simple, and so many people I think think it's so difficult, or they have to be a certain way in their life. They have to have their sin under control. They have to be doing this A, B, and C, and before they can even ask Him. No, you don't. He sees you in your mess. He sees you wherever you are. And He wants to help you out of that mess, so don't try and work your way out of the mess in your own strength, which you're probably just going to make your mess bigger, when He can just come in and carry you out. Okay. It's just like prayer. We talked about that off mic. Prayer is not, it's not difficult. It is not a big belabored thing. It's just talking. It's relating. It's relating. He already knows everything. So just talk to Him about it. Be angry with Him if you're angry with Him. Be irreverent, but you can be angry. It's okay. He's not offended. He already knows what's welling up inside of you. He already knows that you're about to pop off. If you haven't already. Yeah. Maybe if we popped off in secret with Him, we wouldn't pop off so much in public on each other. And I'm not saying that you need to go screaming, yelling, being disrespectful and ugly. But He already knows. Of course. And He knows you're coming that way. I've screamed at God for real. Transparency. My sister passed away in 2007. We found her on our couch. She was on our couch dead. And I thought about some stuff that I had read where Jesus brought back from the dead. And Peter brought back from the dead. Like I was like, okay. My Lazarus moment. Yeah. Get up. In the name of Jesus, get up. Because He let us in the house. I kept saying in the name of Jesus, get up. She didn't get up. You're not angry. You're not alone. I was angry with God. You're not alone. A lot of people have experienced death and been very angry and still are very angry. Angry. And there's a lot of people in the future that are going to be very angry. As you just said, it's okay. He gave you the emotion of anger. Yes. You think He doesn't understand it when He created it? When He created it? You think He doesn't understand the emotion of hurt when He created it? He doesn't want you hurting. He wants to make you whole. But He understands the emotion. Yeah. Just like joy. Just like all the other good stuff too. But yeah, He gets the ugly stuff. He gets the grime. He gets the nastiness. He gets it all. I mean, Jesus had to walk this earth so He could feel all those things. I've had people say, well, Jesus wasn't angry. Yes, He was. He flipped tables, didn't He? He was very angry at times. Y'all look frustrated with the disciples at times too. Oh, yeah. Y'all didn't realize this yet. It's like herding cats. I'm sure He looks at us every day and goes, these dang cats. I've been trying to herd these cats. That one just keeps banging her head on the same dang wall. She just keeps trying in her own might. Yes. That's why we have to dispel this myth of we have to be divided from one another. We're more powerful together. Oh, absolutely. But the system doesn't allow that. Absolutely. But society has convinced us that it's all about me. And I can do enough. You would think that I thought the church was for the people. I didn't know I had to be of a certain denomination to be for... Included. Right. For the people. Like, I don't... Okay. What's the end game? Peel back the layers. Strip it of the junk. Tear this stuff apart. Just be like Jesus. The way you be putting it, I love it. What we're supposed to do, right? Be like Jesus. Now, am I like that? No, but I hope I get there one day. He's working on me. I'm a work in progress, y'all. I think we all are. Be like Jesus. Love more. Yes. Realize people are gifts. Yes. Realize everything is a gift. Realize every breath is a gift. Yes. Live with a heart of gratitude. Count your blessings and not your curses. That's a good one. Yeah. Because the things that you're complaining about are something someone else is praying for. Now, that just hit me in my own heart right there. That's good. The thing that you are complaining about is the thing that someone is praying for. Wow. Ooh, that can cross a whole lot of different areas. You're complaining about your spouse. Somebody else is wishing they had one. You're complaining about your house. Homeless people all over the world. Oh, yeah. Ooh, that's good. Ooh, that's real good. Come on. Preach, preacher. You are on it. That's good. But, yeah. I always tell you. We always talk about how simple it is, man. Just put it down. But, do I do what I say? No, not all the time. Well, I guess that's the good part. Because, again, you're still human, too. And you're still not all the time. But you are a work in progress. As we all are. Oh, yeah. Believe me. There's a lot of work going on on this puppy. You and me both. Yeah. Sometimes I'm like, okay. Can you stop? Can you let up a little bit? You and me both. But, yes. We all need to be unified. We need to be. We need to stop noticing the differences. And start counting the similarities. Wow. And understanding those things. And stop. You know. The more we get into the labels of being different. The more we get into the labels of whatever. I could go somewhere. But I'm not going to right now. But it just divides us. Yeah. The more we strip away, the more we come together. I agree. Because you're making room. Yeah. And it seems like we just want to be pigeonholed nowadays. Like, we want to be in our. Everybody needs to be in a little sect. And in a little box. And we've got all these boxes. And the boxes can't. They've got walls. So they don't blend. That's good. That's not anything how it should be. Wow. You're a teacher across the spectrum. That goes beyond just denomination. Like, that's life. Life. Yeah. That's how we're living nowadays. Because we've allowed. Divide us. Yeah. Yeah. And the media. And the government. And. All of it. All of it. And it's sad. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is.
