The podcast hosts discuss the importance of having a friendship with Jesus. They talk about the challenges of maintaining constant contact with God and the distractions that can hinder this relationship. They emphasize the significance of reading the Bible, praying, and worshiping as ways to deepen one's friendship with God. They also touch on the importance of gratitude and repentance in prayer. The hosts highlight the need to stay present and focus on God's will in the present moment. Alright, so we've got 20 minutes in 10, 9... Hi, I'm Jesse. I'm Trent. And welcome to the Trent for Today podcast. And today we are going to be speaking about how to actually have a friendship with Jesus. Which is pretty cool, because it's pretty cool to be in a friendship with the Creator. Crazy, crazy stuff. Before we get started though, I just want to ask Jesse, how's your week been? It's been good, it's been chill. It's only Tuesday, so not much has happened. Yeah. It's been cool. Matt's been doing everything, and I don't know what Trent's been up to. I've been trying to get some sleep. What did you want? And what about you? For me, I slept in until 4pm after going to this crazy worship night. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. How good was that though? That was crazy. It was such a good time. There were hundreds of young people there. Young Christians. Yeah. For me, that grew my passion. Because when you do stuff like this, obviously you know there's people that are hungry, people that are married, who just want to grow connections. But seeing it come that large, and I've always wanted to call this thing out loud. Just seeing all these young people, and old people, and really young people, coming in and praising and worshipping the Lord. It was such a great night. Yeah. As we've said, do you want to basically even overline what we've been speaking about today? Having a friendship with God. I mean, you just told me what we were talking about like 5 minutes ago. I think we were talking about having a friendship with God, and we're going to go a bit in depth into prayer and stuff. Yeah definitely. Which will be good. Yeah for sure. But yeah. Yeah, well, we'll open it by asking, how do you think that we can actually have a friendship with God? Especially because God is not a person that we can see in front of us. You can see the things He does, but you can't really see Him. How do you have a friendship with something you can't really see? I think it's sort of the most, well it's obviously the most complex relationship. Yeah. It doesn't have to be so simple. If you just choose to go all out for Jesus, right? I'm going to fix this. But I think having a friendship with the Creator is, first of all you have to be in constant contact. Like you can't, I'm your mate. I'm not going to just, I have to talk to you all the time. I'm going to be your mate. That's how friendships work. What about you? Yeah, I think exactly what you said. You can't just say you're friends with someone yet never speak to them, never talk to them. To actually have a friendship with God is legit as easy as Sunday School made it. Pray, read your Bible, worship Him. I guess we can just throw that around like it's some easy thing to do. But to put that into your schedule is so hard. Just remember to pray. Just remember that. Most nights I would rather be watching Netflix than just chilling and trying to sleep at night. I know I'm asking you to be honest. I know it's kind of crazy. But it's good to like, you want to, it's hard to implement those things when you're like, oh I've got to read my Bible. When like there's so many distractions or you want to be, I don't know, playing video games or watching YouTube or doing stuff. It can be really hard to like break into, to start to talk to God to actually have that friendship. Because if you don't talk to God, you know, He's not going to know you. And I never want to go to heaven and be like, I can't, I can't. That's crazy. Yeah. Funny that you say that though, before talking about like all those distractions. Like when that happens to me and I actually then go into the Word, then I'm so glad that I do. And now I'm like, oh, I don't even feel like watching a movie anymore. I just want to keep reading my Bible. Yeah. Yeah, it's so good. It's like once you, it's almost like, it's like getting like a chocolate sweet. Like once you have a little bit of it, you want more and more and more and more. None of that sounds like crazy because it's a book. And me, myself personally, I cannot read books. I can't do it. Like every time we have English assessments, I'm always like one of the last people to finish the book. Cause I just, I can't do it. I can't sit there and read the book. I don't think trying to read the books either. Oh, okay. I'll read that. Yeah. I think you should read the English books though. Some of them are amazing. Yeah, I know. Some people are just flat. One of my mates hasn't even read like any English books. Like there's compulsory to read the Bible. Shout out to my mother-in-law. There's someone in my class that was like, hasn't read something that was supposed to be read like three terms ago. And it's needed in the final exam. It's crazy. That's nuts. But yeah, like you have to be in your Bible. You have to be getting those words because like I said before, God wrote words for you 2,000 years ago for you to pick up. No, he's not going to make you pick it up. Only you can make that decision. And then you get so many. Like if you've let someone deliver for years and years, open this map man. Open this map. It's like the gentle knocking on the door thing. As you're like scrolling on your phone, I'll let you be able to read your Bible. Yeah. And then I hope eventually that you go and read your Bible. Yeah. Because when you're trying to like build a friendship, there's going to be so many things that are trying to take you away from that. And like you said, like knocking on the door. You know, you could be playing Fortnite at 2am. You need to knock on the door like this 5 minutes. I'm going to take you away from my house right now. I'm going to take you away from my house. Look what I'm doing. Take me away from my house. I've got to get these crowns and stuff. Please let me play another game. And then before long, you're falling asleep on the wire. And another day. But man, it happens. It happens to everyone. Yeah. If you want to get into prayer. Yeah. How do you pray usually? There's so many ways that you can pray. The one way that I grew up learning like in Sunday school is thank you, sorry, ask. But I always will say thank you for the blessings. I really learned the past year to like recount my blessings. And to look back like I don't know why, but especially the past year. I've just looked at my life and been so thankful to the Lord. For so much. Same. This Sunday, I was like, I was standing in church. I'm like, bro, God knows I'm crazy. And you don't even realize. Yeah. I just look at it and I'm like, if I didn't have God, I wouldn't have any of this. Like only God can deliver this. Especially like my family, my parents, my family, my friends and stuff like that. I'm always looking back and being like, Lord, I don't know why you've done this to me. Because I don't deserve it. I'm so thankful. Yeah. I'll always thank you every night for every single thing I could possibly think for. Not that it's even just happened on that day. Just in general. And then with sorry, like we all make mistakes. And repentance as well. I want to get into repentance a bit later. Yeah. Because I know, I feel like repentance can be really hard to understand sometimes. And then obviously praying and asking, like everyone has to, like they need to have to and stuff. And then like, you know, not everyone's like, oh yeah, please Lord, bring me my wife tomorrow morning or something like that. It's like, I talk to a girl in church, I think she's the one. Yeah. It's just like, I'll wake up tomorrow and please just let me have like a massive amount of like breakfast, like pancakes and stuff. And I'll just deliver from the Delta 7 and stuff like that. But what about you? Honestly, usually I'll just, I think most consistently, I mean, I feel like I try to be in conversation with God all the time. But when I go to direct prayer, like intentional, usually at night before I go to bed. I try to read the Bible every night. But I guess I just, I pray over what I've read. And then sometimes I'll just say the Lord's Prayer as well. Yeah. I always talk about that as well. Lord's Prayer. Just because it starts off with like praising God. It says, I'll follow heaven, hallowed be your name. I look up what hallowed means. It's really revered and honoured. So yeah, it's praising God. It says, your kingdom come, your will be done, so that God's plan be with you. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who are our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Yeah. So I guess it's important to also, before you say any of your needs, to praise God and thank Him for what He's done in your life. And then also, then I'll ask it later. But yeah, important to praise Him first as well. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, like your kingdom come, your will be done. I'm constantly reminding myself to be present when talking to God. Because it's hard sometimes, even just talking to God, there's so many distractions. But to be present and speak. When you have a conversation with someone, you're present. You're not in a conversation looking at the person behind you. Unless you're like, I'm going to try to read someone else's Bible. I like it. When you're being present with God, it's your kingdom come, your will be done. Not tomorrow or in five minutes. It's right now. It's your kingdom come, your will be done in this day. It's the present. It's happening now. It's not in the future. It's right now. And I'm always reminding myself to stay present. Because I feel like I should be sidetracked. So be present. And then I'm worrying about things from the past and the future. And I've lost it. And it's not His kingdom come. It's trying to remember what's happened in the past. And I'm always looking like your kingdom will be done today. It's not, it'll be always today. It's always. We're stepping into it. He's filling the pan. He plans for us as we prosper. His kingdom will come. Your will be done.
